The second installment of DC’s Aquaman series, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, is all set to release in December 2023. The release has been pushed back several times mainly due to actress Amber Heard’s highly publicized court battle against her ex-husband, actor Johnny Depp. It was announced last year that Amber Heard lost the trial and was found guilty of defaming the actor. Very soon, thousands of petitions were made demanding the removal of Heard’s part in the second Aquaman movie.
Despite the petitions, it seems like Amber Heard will continue her part as Mera in the upcoming movie. However, it may be a bad idea as the movie’s recent test screenings were a disaster. Reports claimed that people walked out of the theatres because the movie was not good.
Jason Momoa and Amber Heard don’t really get along
It was revealed last year that the major issue that arose during the filming of the first Aquaman movie was the lack of chemistry between Amber Heard and Jason Momoa. The two didn’t really get along on the sets of the movie and Heard even once mentioned that she got annoyed by Momoa’s attitude.
The actor reportedly tore pages from her books and she was extremely annoyed by it. Walter Hamada, the president of Warner Bros. once talked about how they lacked chemistry despite looking perfect together in the movie. It reportedly took a lot of effort to film the movie.

Jason Momoa reportedly wanted Amber Heard to star in the second movie
Despite the lack of chemistry, it was revealed in May 2022 that Jason Momoa fought to keep Amber Heard in the second movie. At the time, the actress was fighting the defamation trial against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. Sources claimed, “Her world has been silent in terms of opportunities. Even things she wanted to work on are no longer available to her.”
Jason Momoa then reportedly came to her rescue as he was “adamant” she reprises her role in the film’s sequel. However, the lack of chemistry was once again visible during the production of the second film.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom got terrible reviews
Recently, the test screenings of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom took place in several theatres. The screenings were a complete disaster as people walked out of the theatres. The movie was also reportedly missing a lot of material but they still have time to fix all those things. Ben Affleck’s Batman was supposed to make a cameo in the movie but that part was also removed.
The expectations are quite high as the first Aquaman movie grossed $335.1 million in the United States and Canada and $813.4 million in other territories, for a total worldwide gross of $1.149 billion. It became the highest-grossing installment in the DCEU.
