Asa Butterfield Fans are Just Discovering Sex Education’s ‘1917’ Easter Egg
Asa Butterfield and his canon show Sex Education have won hearts ever since they debuted in 2019. The show has been rightfully touted for addressing many sensitive and necessary topics around s*x and young adults that are considered taboo in society, with a responsible yet light and comedic approach that seemed to have touched audiences from across the globe.
However, fans are going crazy over an Easter Egg that was posted by a TikTok user in 2021 and reposted by an X user (formerly Twitter) at Films Easter Eggs & Details. The clip shows a similarity between two scenes from Sex Education season 3 and the critically acclaimed Oscar-winning movie 1917, which came out in 2019.
Sex Education Easter Egg that has caused a stir among fans
In 2021, TikTok user @ecclesrose first noticed the comparison between Sex Education season 3 and 1917’s infamous running scene. In the clip, one can see Asa Butterfield or Otis running among a field full of girls until he crashes into someone and tumbles down before he gets back up. The clip is eerily similar to the film 1917, where George MacKay can be seen running, but instead of a cheerful field of a high school, it is a field of active warfare.
Recently, the clip resurfaced on the social media platform X in the form of a meme. The account by the name of Films Easter Eggs & Details posted a side-by-side of these two clips, humorously putting the words “kids in 1917” and “kids in 2021” on the respective clips.

Sex Education Easter Eggs of all times
This is not the first time the show has bamboozled its fans with hidden Easter Eggs. A Reddit user by the name of u/bluecowgreensheep pointed out that Adam made the exact same poster for the dog that went missing under his care due to his momentary carelessness, which was made for Will Byers in Stranger Things season 1 when he went missing.

The Wrap pointed out another Easter Egg in season 4 while reviewing it. In it, we see Emma MacKey writing an essay on the Brontë Sisters for her new college professor in America. It is quite a chuckle-worthy moment, as Emma MacKey previously portrayed Emily Brontë in the 2022 biopic about the acclaimed writer of classics like Wuthering Heights.
