‘Avengers: World War’ Can Mirror Endgame’s Iconic Success With 1 Brutal Plot That Combines ‘Siege’ With ‘World War Hulk’ (Theory)
The MCU superhero team, Avengers’, last on-screen outing was the fourth movie of the Avengers series titled Endgame, which saw the team successfully eliminate the threat of Thanos who was fixated on removing half of the universe’s population. However, the process resulted in the loss of some major heroes like Black Widow and Iron Man.
The movie was largely successful, and the fifth movie, initially known to feature Kang as the antagonist, could replicate that success with a plot that would be a combination of the Siege and World War Hulk comics storylines. Since there is no telling whether or not Kang is going to return in the upcoming Avengers movie, this fan-suggested plot might save the day.
Avengers 5 Could Benefit from Combining the Siege and World War Hulk Storylines
Since Avengers 5 is no longer going with the title The Kang Dynasty, the movie might have a plot that is adapted from comic books that have little to nothing to do with Kang. The new plot could also be a combination of elements from multiple comics.
While most fans of the franchise are eagerly waiting to find out what the studio will come up with now, some have also started theorizing about what it could be. One Reddit user falls into the latter category as they have come up with a plot that combines the comic storylines of Siege and World War Hulk.
According to this theory, Avengers 5 could be World War and there could be a battle between an alliance of the new Avengers, new Asgard, Wakanda and Talokan, and the governments of the world. The Avengers will be siding with these allies because they are labeled the bad guys, and Thunderbolts (the dark Avengers) are considered the public heroes.
This siege scenario is much like the Siege comic storyline in which the new Asgard is under attack by Norman Osborn. Additionally, the background political scenario of the movie and the change in public perception are also reminiscent of that storyline.
As for the World War Hulk storyline, the governments will be using Hulk blood to make more Hulk-like entities to be used for fighting in the war. Further, Savage Hulk will be released in the climax. To keep the multiversal narrative going, the background could include Monica Rambeau or Doctor Strange in the X-Men universe. This kind of storyline would definitely keep the audience on their toes and also attain Endgame-like success.
Why Is Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Not Happening Anymore?
Avengers 5 was initially titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which implied that Kang, portrayed by Jonathan Majors in the MCU, would be the antagonist. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel dropped that title after Majors’ conviction and is rewriting the scripts for the subsequent movies to either completely remove the character or reduce his screen time.
The outlet also claimed that the studio might have begun working on reducing Kang’s screen time after the underwhelming performance of Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania (via The Numbers). The movie grossed $463.4 million against a production budget of $200 million. Not to mention the poor response from the critics.
