Jonathan Majors has quickly become one of Hollywood’s most promising stars with a series of lucrative roles on the prospects. All eyes are now on his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he is set to play the lead role of Kang in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Despite rumors of a possible recasting, Majors is still attached to the project and poised for a $20 million payday, including back-end compensation. He has also been signed on for Avengers: Secret Wars, set to debut in 2026.

Disney, who is already deep in business with the Creed III star, is reportedly monitoring the situation closely and has time to make a decision. Production for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is scheduled to begin in the spring of next year.

Furthermore, Majors’ critically acclaimed drama Magazine Dreams was acquired by Disney’s Studio Mark in addition to his Marvel roles, and it is scheduled for release on December 8 2023 with a significant awards campaign.

The Devotion artist has also recently announced his resignation from the board of the Gotham Film and Media Institute and his work with the Sidney Poitier Initiative, which supports emerging filmmakers. The move was shared with the Gotham board by executive director Jeffrey Sharp on Wednesday afternoon.

Marvel’s Plan For Jonathan Majors In Avengers 5: Recast Or Not?

Since Majors’ arrest for an alleged assault in New York City, he has been in a tough spot. People have been wondering about the future of his role in the upcoming Marvel films. Deadline reported that Marvel is not discussing letting Majors go yet, but he has been dropped by his talent manager Entertainment 360, and The Lede Company PR Firm. It’s uncertain what the future holds for the actor, and no decision will be made until he is proven guilty.

Meanwhile, rumors have been circulating that Marvel might be considering recasting Kang the Conqueror if he is removed from the role. Jeff Sneider suggested that Marvel could look for an actor similar to Damson Idris, who recently landed a big role opposite Brad Pitt in a $150-200 million racing movie. He explained,

“Here’s one I wanted to talk about… Did you see who got cast in that Brad Pitt racing movie? … Damson Idris… I think he’s from Snowfall. And so that’s like a big part, right? That is the young, hotshot racer opposite Brad Pitt in this $150-200 million racing movie. That was a big deal that he got that.”

The industry insider continued,

“And again, even though there hasn’t been any movement on the Jonathan Majors front, I’ve heard that’s the kind of actor, who, like, if Jonathan Majors got the boot as Kang, someone like Damson Idris is the type of the person that [Marvel] may look at to replace him if that happens.”

However, Marvel has not confirmed any plans to recast Kang yet, but Sneider’s comments suggest that the studio is considering it as a possibility.
