Awkwafina Solves Marvel’s 9-Year-Old Problem!
MCU is known for its blockbuster films based on Marvel Comics characters. Marvel tries to balance out comedy with serious acts. It is done in a manner that the audience gets the best of both worlds. However, there was a point when Marvel couldn’t balance out both genres. A film that was supposed to have serious events to cater to the mood of the plot, was filled with unnecessary jokes! However, this problem was solved by Marvel through Awkwafina’s role in ‘Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings‘. It is said to be the first Marvel film in years to have properly balanced comedy. 2012’s ‘The Avengers‘ beautifully concluded the First Phase of Marvel. It successfully included four film franchises and balanced the main cast of six Avengers. Despite its success, the problem within the MCU remained the same- overabundance of comedy. However, it aggravated in the Second Phase.
Here’s How Awkwafina Solved Marvel’s 9-Year-Old Problem
Awkwafina plays the character of ‘Katy Chen‘ in ‘Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings‘. Awkwafina’s character ‘Katy Chen‘ solved this problem. Her performance was heartfelt, down to earth and consistently hilarious. Shang-Chi has the perfect balance of humor and drama. Awkwafina is the primary source of comic relief, but not at the expense of her characterization. She plays the life-long best friend of Shang-Chi. Though she doesn’t have superhero powers and skills but is an important character for the movie. She is being one of the best MCU comic relief characters. Even though time and again she entertains us with her comic timing, she discloses in the film that she has been struggling with her life. She couldn’t decide on a career and lifestyle for years. However, Awkwafina isn’t the only source of comedy in the film. For instance, Wong, Jon Jon, and Shang-Chi himself provide notable comedic moments. In fact, the antagonist The Mandarin also has some great comic sense! Let us know in the comments what you feel about the movie and the characters!
