“Barbenheimer weekend basically telling studios NO MORE SEQUELS”: Barbie and Oppenheimer Opening Collections Makes Fans Question Why Fast X, Indiana Jones 5 Exist
Hollywood has been crushing its Box office revenues with the release of its new blockbusters where in the last 4 weeks alone we got some high-earning movies like Indiana Jones, Transformers 7, Fast and Furious X, and now the Babie movie and Oppenheimer a.k.a Barbenheimer which was released on the same day.
The fans of both movies have shown equal interest to watch both movies and many took Twitter by making #Barbenheimer go viral and sharing their experience watching an action thriller as well as a fantasy comedy together.
Looking at the box office revenues and the production budget of all of the recently released Hollywood movies, fans shared that these numbers give a major hint that Barbenheimer movies may not be getting a sequel anymore.
Fans Respond to Back-To-Back Hollywood Blockbuster Releases
Many fans just watched the new Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and Fast and Furious X which had a good jump start in Box office revenues.
As the box office revenues have been flowing up with movies like Jones, Transformers, and Fast X, Hollywood added another two movies which were released back on the 21st of July.
Both movies didn’t have a good start compared to other Hollywood movies. The Hollywood franchise added new movies starting with Vin Diesel‘s movie which was released back on 19th May this year.

Barbie – $150M+ opening vs $145M budget
Oppenheimer – $75M+ opening vs $100M budget
Fast X – $67M opening vs $340M budget
TF 7 – $61M opening vs $200M budget
Jones – $60M opening vs $295M budget
…Barbenheimer weekend is basically telling studios no more sequels.

Other fans shared that many franchises don’t usually perform with their first movie but still, the filmmaker comes up with more sequels.
That has nothing with sequels. Barbie & Oppenheimer are doing well because they’re simply good movies with reasonable budgets. While TF 7, Fast X and Jones are okay to mid movies at best with ridiculous budgets.

Guess you forgot both Guardians 3 and Spiderverse on your list because those are sequels and did very well

I think a combination of everything is always important…
Sequels
Originals
Animation
‘Originals‘ based on an already established events; brands; games, etc…
…There are always gonna be movies that fail or win at the box office, no matter if they are originals or not…

However, we don’t have any word from the directors of both Barbie as well as Oppenheimer movies about whether there will be any new sequels released or not. We shall keep you updated with more updates as soon as we get a confirmed update.
