Back in 2012, there were many names attached to the beginning of the DC Extended Universe including Dwayne Johnson who was rumored to play Lobo; a Czarnan intergalactic bounty hunter in the DC Universe. Lobo was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen and appeared in Omega Men #3 back in 1983.

In 2009, Warner Bros. had announced that Guy Ritchie would direct a live-action movie Lobo but a few years later, the audience and media learned that the project had fallen apart and there was no specific reason mentioned on why the project was no longer in the works. Brad Peyton addressed the Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson starrer Lobo being shelved

Brad Peyton, who was appointed after Guy Ritchie decided to leave, also decided to move on from the project after going back and forth, and in his interview with ComingSoon.net, he said,

“I think what’s happening with DC is that they have prioritized what they need to make first in order to kind of lay the foundations for the DC Universe. This is what I believe is happening just from what they’ve been taking about. They’re talking about Justice League, Batman v Superman, and going into Flash, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. Those are kind of the pillars of that universe.”

The director had mentioned that it’s a real uphill battle to talk people into spending a lot of money to do things correctly, adding that he was really happy with the script and had talked with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson about it. Joel Silver and Peyton had a really amazing meeting about the project and he revealed that he did a rewrite of the script and was really, really excited about it.

Brad Peyton also pointed out in the interview that he wonders if Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy would somehow help push their movie forward and explained, “With Marvel, they’re now having smaller characters like Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. They obviously had to start, though, with their big guns and set up The Avengers. I kind of feel like that’s where DC is now. They’re setting that team up.”
