Shailene Woodley embarked on her acting career at a young age. She had a minor role in the TV film Replacing Dad. She appeared in numerous other TV movies and shows before she made her big-screen film debut with 2011’s The Descendants, which turned out to be her breakthrough performance.

In the years following her breakthrough, she has appeared in the film adaptations of two rather great literary works. The first was The Fault in Our Stars and the second was The Divergent novel series. She was praised for her performance in all these movies.

Besides her brilliance as an actress, Woodley also makes headlines for her dating life. In 2017, she sparked rumors of a relationship with Ben Volavola. For those unversed, Volvola is an international rugby union player who plays for Leicester Tigers in England’s Premiership Rugby.

The duo made their relationship official with their red carpet debut in May 2018, as reported by US Weekly. During an interview with Bustle in April 2020, she claimed that they had split. Dishing further on their relationship, she revealed how working on the movie Endings Beginnings made her realize something.

I was in a relationship with someone and we were very much on the road to marriage and children. I realized I was still at an age where I wasn’t able to fully commit. I couldn’t be available to him in the way that I wanted to be. I didn’t fully love myself.

That same year, she was speculated to be dating NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, that relationship was reported to have come to an end in 2022 as the couple ended their engagement (via PEOPLE).

Woodley has had her fair share of partners and by the looks of it, this also includes some who have not been good enough to her. She is now revealing how she has learned that letting go of such partners is best for her.

While promoting her upcoming Starz limited series Three Women in an interview with Bustle, she expressed her no-tolerance policy for pretense.

I give all of myself. I used to be a person who, if you crossed me and disrespected that, would continue to give and give. And now you cross me, I respectfully go, ‘Thank you so much for that information. Have a beautiful life. I wish you well.’ Not interested.

When asked what helped her learn to stop being so caring for people who did not return the same energy, she said:

A broken heart that healed and broke again. I fell in love over and over with unavailability. I’m very open as a human. I love easy and I care easy, but I do not love lightly, and I do not care lightly.

Woodley explained that it took her a lot of time to understand that it is not her responsibility to make a relationship work except to make sure that the love and care she has for the world and her beloved people stays intact.
