Billy Joel Famously Ousted a ‘Friends’ Star From His Home After Starting a Relationship with Model Christie Brinkley
Billy Joel is one of the most popular musicians of all time and his success as a solo artist stands as a testament to that. Having started his music career in the 1970s, he has released twelve studio albums, all of which have been massive hits with his fans. Much like Harry Styles and Justin Timberlake are the most eligible bachelors of their generation, Joel was undoubtedly the most eligible bachelor of his generation.
This often meant that the Captain Jack singer had more than multiple women vying for his attention at the same time. One of the many times more than one woman pursued Joel, an incident occurred that led him to ask one of his admirers to leave his house.
Billy Joel Had to Ask Elle Macpherson to Leave
In the book Billy Joel: The Definitive Biography which he withdrew from eventually, the hitmaker told author Fred Schruers that when he came to New York from his vacation in St. Barts in 1982, he was still in touch with both Macpherson and Brinkley, whom he had met on the vacation.
He recounted how the first time he managed to bring Brinkley back to his home only to be surprised by what (or who) awaited him in his penthouse apartment overlooking Central Park. It was none other than the Friends star, who is well-known for portraying Joey Tribbiani’s roommate Janine Lacroix. He recounted how he felt at that moment (via Page Six):
“Even as part of me thought, ‘Oh, God, no,’ another part of me was going, ‘Holy crap, if my friends could see me now.’”
Brinkley was unbothered by this and decided to leave. Macpherson stayed, but it was not who Joel desired. The Australian model revealed what happened that night during her appearance in an episode of Andy Cohen’s show Watch What Happens Live in 2018. When a caller rang in to ask what went down between the three of them. The Edge actress informed that she was “ousted”.
Billy Joel’s Love Life Has Been Tough
For someone as successful and charming as Billy Joel, whisking a woman away must have been no issue at all. He married four times and got divorced thrice. He might have been a winner when it came to his music career, but love was giving him a hard time. However, this is not to say that he is on anything other than good terms with his ex-wives.
Joel’s first wife was Elizabeth Weber, whom he married in 1973. Dubbed ‘Piano Man’ after his eponymous 1973 song, the musician took quite some time to realize that Weber was more interested in his money than himself. Following their split in 1982, he went to St. Barts for a vacation.
This was where he met Elle Macpherson and his future wife Christie Brinkley. It was in a piano bar where he decided to play some music and found that Macpherson and Brinkley were standing by his sides. Not to mention Whitney Houston who was yet to become the popstar the world knew.
The An Innocent Man singer married Brinkley in 1985, but his busy touring schedule drove a wedge between the couple. They decided to split in 1994. A decade later, he married Katie Lee who was much younger than him so this marriage did not last long and they divorced in 2009. In 2015, he tied the knot with Alexa Roderick and they are still going strong.
