Blue Beetle, the upcoming film in the DC Cinematic Universe, is creating a tidal wave of excitement among fans. All are eagerly waiting for the emergence of Jaime Reyes as the formidable Blue Beetle, played by Xolo Maridueña. Blue Beetle marks the first superhero of the new DC Universe as envisioned by DC Studio’s founders James Gunn and Peter Safran.

With the failure of The Flash, Gunn, and DC have found a ray of hope in Blue Beetle. After the early screening of the film, critics took to Twitter to applaud the film for its original strategy. The film has garnered positive reviews from critics giving hope to DC to recover from previous flops like Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash.

However, with the positive reviews, the question of a sequel has popped up. The film, directed by Angel Manuel Soto, centers around Jaime Reyes, who comes into contact with an extraterrestrial scarab and later embraces his new identity as Blue Beetle.

Soto, in an interview, claimed there is hope for a full Blue Beetle trilogy following this initial origin movie. The director said,

“The way the machine works, the [first] movie needs to make money for them to put more money in, but for us, we’ve always seen it that way…We love the story so much. We believe in the product so much. We believe in an actor so much. We couldn’t help but think about where his journey was going to go while we were creating this film.”

Blue Beetle 2 depends on the box office success of the first film, as the director does have plans for two more sequels to round out Jaime Reyes’ story as a full-on trilogy.
