The upcoming DC Extended Universe movie Blue Beetle will introduce several firsts. It will be the comic book character Blue Beetle’s first standalone film and the first DCEU film with a lead who is of Latin origin.

The movie depicts Jaime Reyes’ adventure as a young Latino boy who acquires a suit of armor equipped with exceptional abilities after an extraterrestrial scarab connects to his spine. To fight evil, Reyes must learn to utilize the power of the scarab. Xolo Maridueña plays Jaime Reyes in this Angel Manuel Soto-directed movie.

In the Netflix series Cobra Kai, Maridueña played the character Miguel Diaz, for which he is best known. Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, Raoul Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, and George Lopez are also in the movie alongside him. On August 18, 2023, Blue Beetle is expected to hit theaters.

Despite having an excellent cast and being anticipated to be an impressive superhero film, the box office prediction is quite low.

Box office predictions of Blue Beetle

Blue Beetle, the upcoming DC superhero movie, starring Xolo Maridueña is expected to have a challenging opening weekend at the box office. Boxoffice Pro predicts that the film will make between $12 million and $17 million on its domestic release. It would be the DCEU’s worst opening weekend since Wonder Woman 1984, which was released in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day if the predictions prove to be accurate.

Furthermore, according to Boxoffice Pro, Blue Beetle‘s domestic box office potential is only $55 million over the course of its full theatrical run which is even less than half of what The Flash has so far made in North America.

The Blue Beetle was negatively impacted by the actors’ strike

The next DC superhero movie Blue Beetle has been negatively impacted by the ongoing actors’ strike. The cast has been unable to promote the movie due to the strike, which started in July. This may be why the movie is going to perform so poorly according to early box office predictions.

Warner Bros. apparently thought about delaying Blue Beetle until after the strike ended shortly after it started. The actors then could have properly promoted the movie and possibly improved its chances of doing well at the box office. The studio ultimately decided against delaying the release of the movie until 2024.

The decision to postpone Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the final DCEU film, has also not been made. The current release date for the sequel is December 2023. The strike, however, might also have an effect on this movie’s promotion, and Warner Bros. might opt to postpone it as well.
