Blumhouse Boss Says a New Insidious Movie May Never Happen
Insidious is defined as “proceeding in a gradual, subtle way, but with harmful effects,” and no doubt that the franchise has perfectly lived up to its name as the demonic entities slowly encroach on the lives of the living throughout each movie. The franchise films follow the Lambert family, who start experiencing supernatural occurrences, convincing them that their new house is haunted. Though the Lamberts move, supernatural activities follow them, becoming increasingly more pronounced and regular.
Blumhouse Boss Confirms Horror Franchise’s Temporary Shutdown
Based on Discussing Film’s exclusive interview, horror franchise creators, James Wan and Jason Blum confirmed that they are putting an end to their Insidious franchise with Insidious: The Red Door. According to Jason Blum’s comments, after the upcoming release, the horror franchise will go on a hiatus for the foreseeable future.
When asked if this is really the end for one of the most loved horror franchise, Jason Blum said, “You better see this Insidious, it’s the last one! (laughs) To give a more serious answer, [The Red Door] is going to be the last we’re going to see of Insidious for a while. It may not be a forever rest, but it’s certainly going to be a very long rest. So, if someone comes up with some idea in 10 years, who knows? But there’s not a plan – as there has been with every prior Insidious movie – there’s no current plan in place for number six.”
Meanwhile in an exclusive interview with SCREEN RANT, Elise actor Lin Shaye addressing the news of franchise’s closure said,
I think everything has a beginning, middle and end, ultimately. I think sometimes, especially in storytelling, it’s enough already, as they say, because I know we’ve all seen shows that we went, “Oh my god, they’re still [going]?” There’s especially series that get like that, “Isn’t that over already? Is this done already?”
I think it’s very savvy to be a creator and know when it’s good to have an ending, and I think this was a really wonderful — it doesn’t mean the world of Insidious is necessarily over, but it does mean that particular story has a beginning, middle and end now, and I applaud it. I think it’s a wonderful script, and a wonderful story. In the coming years, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Insidious franchise.
