Brad Pitt Didn’t Give Any Real Advice to Donald Glover For Mr and Mrs Smith Reboot
Brad Pitt has been in the entertainment industry for decades. The American actor has not only been a part of diverse genres of movies but also has created a massive fan base across the world. He met his ex-wife Angelina Jolie on the sets of Mr. And Mrs. Smith. With a box office collection of $487.3 million worldwide, the action-comedy drama went on to become one of the highest-grossing movies of 2005.
With Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, the Mr.And Mrs. Smith reboot was aired on Prime Video. The comedian-turned-actor Donald Glover recently spoke about Brad Pitt and his advice for the reboot.
Brad Pitt Simply Avoided Giving Any Advice To Donald Glover For Mr. And Mrs. Smith Reboot
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, Donald Glover, and Maya Erskine were present for the promotion of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot. While talking about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the Atlanta actor revealed that he wasn’t given any advice from the reputed star. He said-
“He didn’t give me any real [pointers]. He kind of Brad Pitt-ed his way out of it. He just kind of like, charmed his way. He was like, ‘Yeah, you know, you’ll do great.'”
On being asked if he had watched the original Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Glover confessed that he had not watched the movie during the time of its release. He said-
“I hadn’t at the time. I’ve seen it, obviously, by now. It’d be scary if I hadn’t. It’d be like, ‘Oh, that’s what this is about? Spies?'”
The synopsis of the television-based spy series mentions-
“Two lonely strangers, John and Jane, who have given up their lives and identities to be thrown together as partners – both in espionage and in marriage.”
The Mr. And Mrs. Smith reboot revolves around two strangers, Donald Glover as John Smith and Maya Erskine as Jane Smith, who are working for rival spy agencies and are hired to kill each other. The plot of the reboot is different from the 2005-released spy action comedy drama.
Donald Glover Talks About The Reboot Of Mr. And Mrs. Smith
The Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane-led reboot of Brad Pitt’s Mr. And Mrs. Smith is currently airing on Prime Video. The eight-episode series is something Donald Glover and Maya Erskine fans were desperately waiting for. During an interview with the media outlet Entertainment Weekly in November 2023, the actor and co-creator of the show spoke about the reboot and how it is different from the original Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The Community actor said-
“You can always go back and watch the old one, but this one gives you a different feeling. People are definitely going to be shocked. “I just know how much people love the other one. So if everybody’s like, ‘Eh,’ we didn’t do a good job. I hope some people are like, ‘This is better than the original,’ and some people are like, ‘This is far worse,'”
While talking about what inspired him to for the Mr. And Mrs. Smith reboot, Donald Glover shared-
“Why do people even get married anymore? Half of it ends in divorce — what’s the purpose?” Let’s make a show dealing with relationships, but from this point of view, centering more on really what a marriage is and trust and teamwork and loneliness and all that stuff. I just wanted it to be something that spoke to people right now because in a time of abundance, why do we feel lonely? The movie wasn’t about that.”
Reportedly during the initial stage of the project, Fleabag actor Pheobe Waller-Bridge was supposed to play the character of Jane Smith, but due to creative differences, the actor stepped back.
All eight episodes of Mr. & Mrs. Smith will be available on Prime Video from February 2, 2024.
