When asked by ComicBook.com about the popular fan theory that he’s playing an alternate universe version of Spider-Man villain Mysterio, Bruce Campbell coyly replies:
“I can’t confirm or deny.”
Many speculate his appearances connect back to Raimi’s plans for Spider-Man 4, where Campbell was set to suit up as the illusionist baddie before the project was scrapped. Does this mean he’s reprising the unmade role through the multiverse? While playing ignorant of Marvel lore, Campbell definitively states his cameos are the same character threaded through the multiverse:
“It’s called the multiverse, my friend. So yes, he is the same character, but we don’t know who he really is. It has not been revealed yet.”
