Call of Duty 2022: The Game Is Being Developed by Infinity Ward

A whole new year means an all-new Call of Duty game and this year’s entry will be interesting, as it is being developed by Infinity Ward.

To maintain the annual release cycle of Call of Duty, Activision always rotates some development across three developers, Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and Sledgehammer, with some more studios lending a little support.

For those who do not know, Blizzard is currently facing quite active serious allegations of harassment and also, mistreatment of marginalized workers within the organization.

Infinity Ward is yet again up to worse, having developed 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare previously, alongside the ongoing Call of Duty: Warzone. The official Twitter account of Infinity Ward also confirmed the news by tweeting that a “new generation of Call of Duty is coming soon,” along with the words, “Stay frosty.”

This could also mean that Infinity Ward is currently working on a sequel in the Modern Warfare series keeping in mind that the 2019 reboot was met with some really positive reviews and success. Leaks have suggested that the next Call of Duty game will indeed be a Modern Warfare sequel and that almost 11 studios are working hard on it.

As far as the storylines go, Activision is keeping all of that under strict wraps. In the latest financials, Activision reveals that Infinity Ward is “working on the most ambitious plan in franchise history, with industry-leading innovation and a broadly appealing franchise setting.”

Activision released Call of Duty: Vanguard, which came out last year was also developed by Sledgehammer. The World War 2 setting had a slightly “lower premium sales” versus its release just prior to that, 2020’s COD: Black Ops Cold War. Similarly, the engagement for Call of Duty: Warzone also started to decline over the quarter.

While the Call of Duty franchise’s future has been placed into question after the shocking news of Xbox’s plans to acquire Activision Blizzard, reports also reveal that for now, Call of Duty will remain an annual, multiplatform franchise.
