Interpretation Of The Opening Scene Of Ice Age Will Leave Every Fan In Shock
Fans all over the world have showered Ice Age with love and appreciation, making it the eighth highest-grossing film of 2002 with a 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The success of the movie spawned an entire franchise.
More than adults, children are fond of the animated franchise and there’s no doubt about that. However, many of the cute fans are unaware of the real meaning of the opening scene of Ice Age.
The scene shows Manny standing at the edge of a cliff, lost in his thoughts when Sid crashes into him. The reason why Manny is standing blank at the edge of the cliff is because he wants to kill himself due to the grief of losing his family to hunters. However, Sid’s interference changed the direction of thoughts inside Manny and the suicidal decision got brushed under the mat.
It’s really a touching scene of how a light-hearted children’s movie had such a grim moment that many of the viewers have missed noticing. If it was not for Sid, Manny would have never got his soul back from oblivion.
The Ice Age Franchise Might Be A Commercial Success But It Is Not a Critical Success
With its first movie hitting the theaters in 2002, the Ice Age franchise has produced five films in total. Following Ice Age, Ice Age: The Meltdown hit the theaters in 2006 and earned 66.7 million against a budget of just $8 million.
However, it only scored 56% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, the third installment, came in 2009 and earned $88.67 million against a budget of just $9 million. The movie scored even less (46%) than the previous movie.
In 2012, the franchise launched its fourth movie, Ice Age: Continental Drift which earned $87.72 million against a budget of $9.5 million. Continuing the bad luck in terms of critics’ scores, the movie managed only 37%. The final theatrical release of the franchise came in 2016 i.e. Ice Age: Collision Course.
The movie earned $40.85 million against a budget of $10.5 million. Although the fifth installment has earned almost 4 times its budget, it still earned less as compared to its predecessors.
Also, with only 18% the movie has the lowest score in the franchise. Many fans are curious if the franchise will produce another sequel. However, to their utter disappointment, there is no such confirmation from the franchise’s creative team.
The Ice Age movies are available for streaming on Disney+.
