The American actor and comedian Tim Allen has been the voice of Buzz Lightyear for the Toy Story franchise since the early 90s. The actor has been entertaining us for more than forty-five years with his acting prowess. He has been associated with movies like- Galaxy Quest, Zoom The Six Wives of Henry Lefay Crazy on the Outside, and  El Camino Christmas.

Tim Allen had been the face behind America’s most popular show Home Improvement, which even got him the prestigious Golden Globe Awards. Chris Evans went on to replace Tim Allen for Buzz in the Toy Story franchise. According to the Pixar’s decision, the Marvel actor would be doing the voice-over for Buzz in the spin-off movie, Lightyear. 

Tim Allen Praised Chris Evans After Criticizing The Movie

The Golden Globe winner Tim Allen was replaced by the Captain America actor Chris Evans in 2022. The legendary actor had been the voice behind the beloved character Buzz Lightyear. According to Pixar, the spin-off required a new voice for the Space Ranger who has been a part of all the four installments of the Toy Story. The decision to replace Tim Allen was taken by Pixar to differentiate between the two voices for the spin-off.

During an interview with the media outlet, The Daily Mail, The Last Man Standing actor, had expressed his confusion over the Pixar movie. The actor was all praises for his replacement Chris Evans. He said-

“They were two completely different movies. And Chris did a great job doing an ancillary part. It was very confusing to all of us on the Toy Story movie side, which was real? I’m a script guy, so if Buzz is real, then Chris’s version of it was, as an actor doing it, really confusing to me.”

Previously the actor had criticized the movie Lightyear. Tim Allen took a dig at the Pixar movie and even went on to mention-  “there is no Buzz without Woody.”  The Shaggy Dog actor broke his silence during an interview with Extra after being replaced by the Marvel actor. He said-

“I’ve stayed out of this because it has nothing to do… As I said a long time ago, we talked about this many years ago, it came up in one of the sessions. I said, ‘What a fun movie that would be.’ We spoke about it. But the brass that did the first four movies, this is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies. I thought it was a live-action when they said they were doing a [movie with humans and not the toys].”

Tim Allen even went on to mention that the role wouldn’t have been right appropriate for him after the spin-off because it had no direct connection with his Buzz.

Tom Hanks Cannot Imagine Lightyear Without Tim Allen

The Forest Gump actor Tom Hanks and Tim Allen have been the voice behind Woody and Buzz from the Toy Story Franchise. Both actors have entertained the audience with four installments of the Pixar franchise. While talking to Cinemablend, about his movie Elvis, Tom Hanks spoke about the recasting of Lightyear. The actor said-

“I wanted to go head to head with Tim Allen and they didn’t let Tim Allen do it.” He continued, “I don’t understand that.”

Tom Hanks continued that it is really weird to see another actor taking over Tim Allen. He said-

I don’t understand that. Here’s the thing: I want to go back in the theatre with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common. That’s what I want to do and, going to see a movie with [Allen] – I’m looking forward to that.”

The replacement of Tim Allen disappointed his fans and followers across the world. The Sleepless In Seattle actor had openly spoken about Pixar’s decision to replace Tim Allen. Tom Hanks and the Toy Story actor have been good friends both on and off-screen.
