Chris Evans’ ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ Title Meant Nothing When He Was Up Against His Marvel Co-star Paul Rudd
The 2022 PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive is actor Chris Evans, best known for playing Steve Rogers/Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Evans’ title came a year after Paul Rudd, a friend, and co-star in Marvel was named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2021.
There have been various rumors put forth as to why Chris Evans deleted his social media accounts after deciding to take a break from them. Scott Evans, the actor’s brother, explains the actor’s decision to avoid social media.
Chris Evans said it’s impossible to follow in Paul Rudd’s footsteps
Last year, when People announced Marvel actor Chris Evans as the PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive, it did not surprise the audience as much as it did the actor, who instantly took to his social media to react to the news by stating that he had big shoes to fill in.
His co-star and actor Paul Rudd was announced as PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2021 and Evans wrote, “Thanks @people!! I think we can all agree that it’s damn near impossible to follow in Paul Rudd’s footsteps in any capacity, but I’ll do my best.” The actor also shared with the publication jokingly that the new title is just going to be a reason for him being harassed and bullied by his friends.
During the interview, Evans mentioned that he knows one person who would be very proud of him earning this title and that is his mother. He said, “My mom will be so happy. She’s proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about.” Evans’ mother Lisa, who was indeed proud, said that she was not surprised at all about her son earning the title.

During an interview segment with Billy on the Street, Billy Eichner was joined by Evans with a special appearance from Rudd and he asked a fan about who she would rather have s*x with between Paul Rudd and Chris Evans, and without much thought, she picked Rudd, stating that the actor is from Clueless and he’s never aging. As Rudd began talking to the woman, the host pushed Evans out of the way asking him to leave, and jokingly said “Let the pretty people talk.”
Fans were quick to comment on the situation, as one mentioned “The only time Chris has ever been told to leave,” while another mentioned, “The world’s most awkward situation.”
Rudd, who was indeed PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive 2021, mentioned that he had a hard time accepting the title as well as the attention that came along with it. He said at the time that he expects his friend circle to give him so much grief but he is going to lean onto it.
The FRIENDS actor also mentioned that he anticipated that his life is going to change a lot and he’d be invited to some of those dinners with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Michael B. Jordan, adding that he is looking forward to living a more posh lifestyle after earning the title of Sexiest Man Alive.

Chris Evans announces break from social media
The Captain America actor recently announced that he will be taking a much-needed break from social media as he would like to spend his summer with less screen time. Evans also shared a post by Taron Egerton about his social media hiatus and agreed with his reason, adding that his screen time has impacted his ability to sit and be present in the company of people he loves.
After Evans went official with his relationship with Alba Baptista on social media, fans were quick to comment and share their disappointment with Evans being off-market. His brother Scott Evans, who recently appeared on Nick Viall’s Viall Files, shared that he understands that there are people who are happy for his brother but there are also people who are not happy with this development.
“It’s tough, people can ruin things pretty quickly. The way people can be, it can make it pretty hard to date someone like that because you think like, ‘Oh I’m just dating a person, he’s a guy’, and then all of a sudden it’s article after article after post after post…”
The actor explained that whenever Chris Evans has dated someone, his partner has always received backlash from the fans, which can only make things and the relationship harder, adding that the Internet can be a dark place, and people can get very bold about the things they think are appropriate. However, sources have mentioned both Evans and Baptista are doing well and are happy with each other.
