Chris Hemsworth Trained For Only One Hour But Ate All Day While Filming Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder With Natalie Portman
The character of Thor, the God of Thunder, was last portrayed by Chris Hemsworth in the 2022 film Thor: Love and Thunder, which also starred Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, and other well-known actors. The film was directed by Taika Waititi, who also starred in it and intended to develop an adventure film with an 80s theme.
After its premiere, the film garnered mixed reviews from critics, who nonetheless appreciated the film’s humor, action sequences, and actor performances while criticizing its narrative and tonal inconsistencies. Even though Waititi attempted to set Love and Thunder apart from Ragnarok, critics went ahead and said that Ragnarok was superior to Love and Thunder. Chris Hemsworth’s commitment to play a part in Love and Thunder is what makes it exciting.
Chris Hemsworth was on a strict diet for Thor: Love and Thunder
Actor Chris Hemsworth, who was applauded by the audience for his physique especially after he appeared as God of Thunder in the MCU, was on a strict diet of eating 4,500 calories for Thor: Love and Thunder, along with eating a lot of meat.
Hemsworth, whose meal plan included a lot of meat, had cut down the meals into smaller portions to avoid feeling sluggish throughout the day, which meant that he was eating only 450 calories per meal and most of it was meat or high-quality protein.
Actor’s trainer Luke Zocchi spoke about his workout regime to Page Six;
“It’s just heavy weight lifting, training at least once a day, sometimes twice a day. People are surprised you don’t normally train over, like, an hour in a session. It’s normally an intense, heavy workout. But we’re normally done within an hour because we’ve just pushed him that hard over that hour. But it’s an intense hour. It’s not like we’re standing around and taking photos for Instagram.”
Natalie Portman praised Chris Hemsworth for not eating meat before filming a kiss scene
During an appearance on Capital FM, actress Natalie Portman, who reprised her character of Jane Foster, revealed that the actor, who had a strict diet during the filming of Thor: Love and Thunder and had been eating meat a lot, decided not to eat meat before the two of them filmed a kissing scene. She explained,
“The day we had a kiss scene, Chris Hemsworth didn’t eat meat that morning because I’m vegan. He eats meat like every half hour. That was so thoughtful. … That’s not something I’m angry about or care about, but he was just being thoughtful. He’s a very nice person.”
Tessa Thompson, who was also at the interview chimed in to say that she had no idea before saying that it was really sweet of him. The actress also added that she didn’t even know Hemsworth could go without eating meat before she went ahead to make a joke that the Australian action star eats bison for breakfast.
Portman, who is holding the hammer now, is Mighty Thor and the director had shared with The Times earlier, “She no longer is the girlfriend on the sidelines, Thor’s ‘chick’. She comes back as her own person, as a strong, powerful woman who is holding the hammer now and is actually a superhero herself.”
Chris Hemsworth’s body double, Bobby Holland, admits to having trouble keeping up with the actor’s physique
The body double of Thor actor Bobby Holland shared during an interview with Fitzy and Wippa via The New Zealand Herald that, just like the actor, he had to be on a diet too and was forced to emulate his intense workout regime. He said,
“Everyone is like ‘Wow look at the size and him,’ and I’m like yeah that’s brilliant, I’m that guy’s double,’ so I text him, I’m like, ‘Thanks very much dude, you’ve just made this even harder’”.
The stunt double further said that it’s not easy to stay in good shape all the time, noting that Chris Hemsworth trains a lot and they are on the same diet and training, adding that he is the biggest though he has ever been for Thor: Love and Thunder, which means that he had to be the biggest he has ever been which is a challenge for him but he is always up for a challenge.
Holland pointed out, “Every two hours we are eating, it’s become a chore, I don’t enjoy eating at all, every two hours it’s like getting calories in, training twice a day, it’s full-on.”
The body double, however, shared his set of challenges as well, noting that he finds it difficult to carry the extra weight and it’s hard to maintain the ligament while he’s all good.
