‘Chrisley Knows Best’ Star Todd Chrisley’s Fate is Even More Depressing Despite Wife Julie Chrisley’s 7-year Re-sentencing

However, the dark side of their stardom brought their fancy lives to an end due to legal troubles. In a case of tax fraud, the couple received a number of accusations and trials and finally got sentenced to long prison terms. But, Todd seems like the one who has suffered the worst fate between the two.
Todd and Julie Chrisley’s Imprisonment
Julie and Todd Chrisley‘s new fate started in August 2019 when they were indicted on 12 accounts of bank and wire fraud, evasion of taxes, and conspiracy. The two faced charges of evading nearly $2 million in state taxes between 2008 and 2016, as per People.
The couple was charged with forgery and conspiring to defraud community banks of more than $30 million. The trial established that they were spending a lot on various luxurious items, which included fancy cars, property, other accommodations, and traveling.
Moreover, they were also accused of stealing more than $1 million in their income from the reality show through their production company, which is tax evasion. They also used to control their accountant to prepare fake income and asset statements and other documents.
The couple, after a 3-week trial, was convicted by a federal jury on all counts in 2022. Julie was charged with 7 years imprisonment with 16 months probation, but in Todd’s case, it was much higher against him. He was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment and 16 months probation.
Todd started serving his sentence in January 2023 in the Federal Correctional Institution of Pensacola, and Julie, who was first transferred to Lexington, was later transferred to the Federal Correctional Institution Marianna.
Julie Chrisley Re-sentenced to 7 Years Imprisonment
In her appeal, Julie Chrisley asked the court to reduce the amount of time she would be serving in prison. But, as reported by AP News, the federal jury rejected her plea. It was prompted by an error in her first sentencing by the judge legal.
In her trial, she was accused of being complicit in the whole bank and tax fraud. But at some point, she seemed to be just a small part of the whole crime. Following her appeal and reevaluation, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals instructed the lower courts to re-sentence her imprisonment.
Julie was defended by Alex Little, and he had a very hard time convincing the judge to reduce the sentence. According to People, Little called Julie an “average prisoner” and also mentioned that she has behaved well in prison and has received more than 70 certificates for various enrichment activities.
According to AP News, Little called Julie’s crimes “scattered offenses” and were “dramatic mistakes.” However, prosecutor Annalise Peters urged the judge to stick with the original sentence and argued that Julie was a “core part” of the fraud and she was not guilty about it. However, according to People, Julie said,
I would like to say I’ve had years to think about what I’ve wanted to say and I’m sorry for my actions and situations that led us to where we are today. I’ve had 20 months in prison, but it has been much more leading up to the trial and I apologize for my actions that led to where we are today.
However, district judge Eleanor Ross stayed with her 7-year sentence, as she believed she sentenced her according to her crimes and guidelines against them. The re-sentencing has made no improvement and left the Chrisley family in a difficult position.
