Christopher Nolan Has the Weirdest Way of Paying His Actors Compliment For Their Stellar Roles
Christopher Nolan is one of the most accomplished filmmakers in the industry who is widely recognized for his complex storytelling. The British filmmaker is regarded as one of the influential filmmakers of the 21st century as he assembles his complex and intricate storylines like a puzzle and presents them for the audience to enjoy.
Actress Emily Blunt appeared in Nolan’s Oppenheimer as Katherine ‘Kitty’ Oppenheimer, opposite Cillian Murphy, who played J. Robert Oppenheimer. She was highly praised by the critics and the audience for her performance in the movie. But it was the compliment from Nolan that Blunt needed and shared the filmmaker’s unusual way of complimenting the actors.

Emily Blunt talks about the compliment she got from Christopher Nolan
Emily Blunt played Kitty Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. She recently appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and talked about the unusual way of Nolan complimenting her. She said,
“We were doing a scene, you remember the scene where I’m hanging the sheets? It’s critical and it was a very windy day so there’s a lot of hair acting going on. And he comes the next day and says, ‘had a look at that scene I though wow. Emily Blunt, high winds actress’.”
Blunt continued she was confused about whether was that a compliment that came from Nolan or what. But she mentioned that late they were doing the court hearing scene, and he was standing in front of the AC Unit and his hair was moving. The actress added that she waited to catch his eye for the longest time, and when she did, she went,
“High Winds Directing.”
Emily Blunt, in her conversation, also notes that Christopher Nolan is one of the most understated people one can ever meet.
Emily Blunt says Christopher Nolan is open to actor’s ideas
During her conversation with Stephen Colbert, Emily Blunt was asked if Christopher Nolan was open to the idea of actors’ ideas for a scene. To which she said,
“He is wonderfully curious, freeing and excited about what you might bring. Not at all, you know, he doesn’t dictate anything.”
The actress later touched on the subject of Nolan’s beef with UGG boots adding that he had an issue with it and it was a serious problem. She added that she walked on set wearing them one day to which Nolan asked her to take them off so she gifted him some.
Emily Blunt adds that she is so proud to be a part of Oppenheimer and in her profile for NY Times; she notes that she does not care if her character is likeable enough as long as she understands it. She said,
“For me, it’s never important if someone is likeable. I just have to understand them. I could play that quiet desperation of the character, the restlessness and that unashamed flair that she had which was so fiery and exciting. And yet she was this very stabilizing force for him. She was his most vigorous protector.”

“I think she had rather extraordinary qualities, as well as ones that really let her down as a person. She is abrasive and flawed, but I really sympathized with that idea of someone deteriorating at the ironing board, when she should have been made for intellectual endeavors that would have thrilled her.”
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has been one of the biggest blockbuster movies in 2023 and has been sweeping all the major awards including a Golden Globe for Best Drama Picture.
