Even at the age of 61, Tom Cruise is one of the most prominent international actors. He is also one of the world’s highest-paid actors and consistently so. He embarked on his journey of professional acting in the early 1980s and his breakthrough role came in 1983 with his lead role in the movie Risky Business. Then came 1986’s Top Gun which established him as an action hero in the industry.

Top Gun‘s success not only cemented Tom Cruise’s superstar status in the industry but also spawned a sequel which was also a blockbuster. One of his other high-grossing franchises is Mission Impossible, which is distributed by Paramount Pictures. Another big distribution company is Warner Bros. Discovery and Cruise joining hands with it is the talk of the town.

Tom Cruise Joining Hands with Warner Bros. Discovery is Reportedly A Coup

Tom Cruise does not need an introduction, thanks to the reputation he has made for himself in the industry over the years. It would be more apt to say that he has earned this reputation by putting in a lot of hard work and uncountable hours of filming. Not to mention the huge amount of risks he takes with each stunt he does in his action movies.

Although Cruise has made his last seven films with Paramount, he never had a deal with them. So, it comes as quite a surprise that the actor has not only signed a deal for starring in but also producing movies for Warner Bros. Discovery. This news has left a sour taste in the mouths of many while others see potential in the collaboration.

A studio executive has expressed his faith in the fact that the Vanilla Sky actor’s deal with the company will benefit it (via The Hollywood Reporter), saying:

“Their ability to say, ‘This is the home of Tom Cruise’ — I think they perceive it as a coup. It never hurts to have a very close relationship with the biggest movie star in the world. It does provide cachet. It says, `This is a real place.’”

This executive is an industry veteran and so even though it is merely just an announcement, they believe that this partnership is going to be good for Warner Bros. Discovery.

Paramount has unleashed its weapon in this battle for engagement by announcing that Top Gun 3 is already in development (via Puck). Reportedly, Ehren Kruger is working on the script which will reunite Cruise with co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell.

With Top Gun: Maverick‘s exceptional performance at the box office which put the theatres back into business after being beleaguered by the coronavirus pandemic, it is confirmed that Top Gun 3 is going to attract the masses to the theaters. The extent of it, however, is something that only time can tell.
