One of the most critically acclaimed movies based on a comic superhero is undoubtedly Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Each movie has its particular charm which is what the director intended to do exactly. Instead of looking at the trilogy as a sequel or a prequel, Nolan focused on each uniquely.

That is part of the reason why Batman Begins feels much different from its following sequels. It almost feels like the whole genre of the film changed except for the main character. Nonetheless, the trilogy is one the most successful movie projects out there involving undergoing social issues in a beaurocratic city life.

The role was given full justice by casting Christian Bale as the Masked vigilante. But when it comes to individual movies, it is clear that the first film in the trilogy which is Batman Begins (2005) is way different than its following two sequels.

The first one focuses more on the superhero Side of Batman while the other two movies The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises at much more grimmer. Talking with The Hollywood Reporter back in 2012, Nolan said,

“Then, in Dark Knight Rises, we move more into the disaster movie.”

With the introduction of Batman’s arch nemesis Joker, The Dark Knight (2008) focused more on socio-political scenarios existing in the beurocratic city of Gotham. As Nolan puts it,

“Gotham takes on that sort of crime epic idea of what a city is,”

And it makes sense considering the first film was an origin story therefore it was much more symbolic than direct.

After the Dark Knight trilogy wrapped up back in 2012 with The Dark Knight Rises, there was still the question of whether another sequel would ever come out.

First off, Christopher Nolan initially did not intend to make a trilogy at all. But with time the plan took place eventually. And when it comes to Nolan’s Batman series, the endings of each movie might give the impression of a possible sequel but they are never intended for that. So even though The Dark Knight Rises can have a sequel, Nolan has confirmed that he is done with Batman as far as it is concerned.
