Chukwudi Iwuji Will Play ‘The Most Complex’ MCU Characters In Guardians of the Galaxy 3
Nigerian Actor Chukwudi Iwuji has recently said that his unrevealed role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is “extremely powerful”, and is going to be one of “the most complex characters we’ve seen in the freaking Marvel Cinematic universe.”
While appearing in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 47-year-old Peacemaker actor teased some interesting details about his secret role in the MCU.
“Powerful,” he said. “Extremely powerful. Complex. James and I were talking about it, but he’s certainly one of, if not the most complex characters we’ve seen in the freaking Marvel universe. So, he’s deeply complex and deeply powerful, and I hope intriguing. I hope I bring that to it.”
Chukwudi Iwuji was announced as a cast member in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 way back in November 2021, right after Will Poulter was announced as Adam Warlock. While we’ve known enough about Poulter’s role for quite a while, it seems like Marvel is looking on to keep all details of Iwuji’s character firmly under wraps.
“Chuk has indeed joined the cast,” director James Gunn wrote on Twitter. “After working with him on Peacemaker I wasn’t about to let go of one of the best actors I’ve ever worked with – so I gave him the role most every big-name actor in Hollywood wanted.”
Although all details are scarce for now, it sounds like a big role for sure. With Iwuji even elaborating that it is going to be an extremely complex and powerful character, it seems as though he might be playing a significant part in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Iwuji will be quite familiar to DC’s Peacemaker viewers, where he can be seen playing Clemson Murn – even impressing director and writer James Gunn, to make the move from DC to the MCU for his next major feature film.
“I literally went from dancing on the soundstage to James saying, ‘Come over here, I want you to be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3’,” explained Iwuji. “And I remember it was one of the few genuine times of my life where I was speechless. I just looked at him and I was like, ‘Um, yes, okay.’ So, that’s how he offered it. I mean, we still had to go through Kevin Feige and certain people, but apparently, he’d already spoken to them, and they liked the idea of it.”
We also learned recently that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will quite likely be the final film with the current line-up of Guardians and while very little is known about the plot yet, it looks like Rocket Raccoon’s backstory will play a potentially important part.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is both directed and written by James Gunn, with Gunn also producing the film alongside Marvel Boss Kevin Feige.
Chris Pratt will return as Star-Lord while Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. They will also be joined by Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sylvester Stallone, Sean Gunn, Will Poulter, and Chukwudi Iwuji.
