Cillian Murphy Admitted He Broke One of His Life Norms After Filming Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is one of the biggest movies of this year. The story of the man who created the atomic bomb had Cillian Murphy at its epicenter.
Murphy has worked in films shepherded by the Academy Award director multiple times before but this was his first time leading the film. Stories of his hard work and dedication to the role were all around social media. But Murphy’s job didn’t end when filming ended. Adding to that is his efforts for Oppenheimer, the actor decided to go against one of his life norms.
Cillian Murphy’s Process as an Actor
Cillian Murphy is easily one of the major talents in Hollywood. Known for his dedication to getting every nuance of his complicated roles right, it was high time that the Peaky Blinders actor star in something as mainstream as Oppenheimer.
The role was challenging in more than one way. Murphy gave it his all to do a story as dynamic as the life story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is also known as the father of the atomic bomb, full justice. As stories from the set of the biopic thriller reveal, Murphy changed everything he could to do his best as Oppenheimer. Some stories suggest that his diet was only almonds at the time. His co-stars revealed that he practiced complete solitude on set, never joining them for dinner or drinks.

Cillian Murphy Broke His Personal Rule for Oppenheimer
In the spree of Cillian Murphy taking major steps for Oppenheimer broke one of his key rules as an actor and went to watch the movie with the audiences.
The film has Murphy at its center both figuratively and literally. Various shots are intense close-ups of his face. Things like that can really bother anyone. It is hard to miss insecurities when one’s face is covering the entire screen in 4k. Murphy, who will watch a Christopher Nolan movie any day, prefers the ones he is not in. He does not like to watch himself on the big screen let alone in a theatre full of people.
But for Oppenheimer, Murphy went above and beyond here too. He wanted to experience the film with the audience because of how large scale it is and how it is made. As he told the Independent:
“I love watching Christopher Nolan’s films when I’m not in them. You don’t have to freak out about the size of your ears or whatever. I don’t make films so I can look at myself. I really don’t. Having said that, I did want to watch this movie with an audience, as that’s how it’s designed.”
Oppenheimer had an exclusive theatrical release on July 21, which was later extended to August 17 on popular demand.
