As such, a lot of pressure has been placed on Blue Beetle, which is penciled to hit the theatres next.

The movie starring Xolo Maridueña is already anticipated to include a lot of new aspects. First and foremost, the Cobra Kai star is set to become the first Latin-origin actor to lead a DCEU movie. Secondly, going by the movie’s promotional video, a new supervillain will be introduced in the movie: OMAC. And there’s more for James Gunn’s first DC character in the new DC Universe.

Xolo Maridueña’s Upcoming Movie Blue Beetle Is Set for a Big Experiment

Blue Beetle will follow the struggles of Jaime Reyes – played by Xolo Maridueña – who ironically finds himself in a pickle after finding an ancient relic of extraterrestrial biotechnology, known as the Scarab. The possession of the Scarab hands Jaime a powerful suit of armor that transforms his fate forever, bestowing him with ample responsibilities.

Talking about fate, Blue Beetle, which is being directed by Angel Manuel Soto, will see the introduction of the concept of legacy, which could spell a positive future for it and increase the chances of the DCUE movie being allowed to stretch into the DCU.

The idea of rebooting didn’t work well for Shazam’s spin-off, Black Adam – which featured Dwayne Johnson in the lead role – as the longstanding history of Justice Society wasn’t addressed intimately. Further, for anyone who isn’t a comic reader, JSA members (Hawkman, Atom Smasher, etc.) turned out to be alien characters, leaving even regular moviegoers puzzled.

But the regular viewers are unlikely to get any such surprises and a repeat of the tedious rebooting trend with regard to Blue Beetle, which will utilize the concept of superhero legacies, passing the role onto the next generation.

The movie will follow the path the comic took: changing shoulders that carry Blue Beetle’s powers and responsibilities through generations. Dan Garret (1939) was the original Blue Beetle, and Jaime Reyes, the latest one to carry the legacy, is the third character to be bestowed with the Scarab.

The idea of legacy, as such, will continue to bring original fans back to the theaters for the next chapter and so on.

Why Blue Beetle Is Already Feared to Flop at the Box Office

While this experiment might help Blue Beetle’s case of returning to the rebooted DC Universe, the predictions for the Maridueña-led project aren’t very optimistic.

The flop showing of The Flash and other recent projects at the box office is undoubtedly going to impact the fans’ excitement and anticipation over another DCEU movie.

Moreover, the timing of the release of Blue Beetle (August 18) is far from ideal, as it comes right in the middle of a historic Hollywood-wide strike.

Maridueña has confirmed he won’t take part in the movie’s promotion ahead of its release amid the ongoing strike, insisting he intends to stand in solidarity with SAG and WGA.
