Jessica Henwick reflects on her experience of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter and promoting her movie Underwater in which she starred alongside Kristen Stewart, Jessica Henwick reflected on her experience of 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens and revealed that she auditioned for the part of Rey for six months.

According to reports, the actress was the front-runner for the part of Rey but it was Daisy Ridley who eventually got the part and impressed everyone with her talent and skills and became a household name. J.J. Abrams however, mentioned that another part was specifically written for Henwick, which was Jessika Pava; the first female pilot of an X-Wing to be seen in a Star Wars movie.

During her conversation with THR, the actress revealed that Jessika Pava is alive and well and fans can read about her adventures in the new spinoff comic books. The actress shared, “I was auditioning for a different character, actually, so I spent six months auditioning for that character. And then, at the end, J.J. said, ‘I want you to be in the film, but I want to write a character for you.’ That’s how Jess Pava was created. But, after six months, you can’t help but just desperately want [the original role]. So, I was a mess at the end of those six months.”

Jessica Henwick could not watch Game of Thrones

The actress landed a role in HBO’s Game of Thrones as Nymeria Sand but recently shared that her illusion broke when she started to see herself on-screen.

During a conversation with BANG Showbiz, she said, “That show really did a great job of building up the anticipation every single week. And I watched it with friends and family. And I remember when I was in LA, and it was playing or when I was in America, people would have viewing parties, so they would make more effort than they went to, then when they went to the cinema, like people would dress up and bring throne-inspired dishes to those parties.”

Henwick continued, “It was a strange one because I love the show. Before I was on it, I was one of those people who would go to the viewing parties and was quite religious about it. And then it’s interesting. As soon as I was on the show, I couldn’t watch it anymore. Just because there was something about seeing myself that broke the spell for me. So I didn’t I didn’t experience it. The viewing parties when I was in the show, but I went before and I loved it.”

The actress said she finds voice acting to be incredibly liberating in a way that physical acting on screen can occasionally be constricting. In the animated children’s series Moley, she will play firecracker Mole Dotty.

She made a point of saying that Dotty was beautiful because it didn’t matter who she was, where she was from, how tall she was, or what color her hair was. The actress said that her ethnicity or anything else doesn’t matter and that everything is just fine.

Following the events of Rise of Skywalker, the movie will follow Rey on her quest to revive the Jedi Order. Since the strike’s duration is still unknown, fans must prepare for potential future delays. It’s also unclear how far the writing for the movie has advanced. Previously assigned as the project’s writer, Damon Lindelof was let go just before the announcement.
