Danny DeVito Has a Message For Chris Pratt Over His Potential Casting as Wario in The Super Mario Bros. Sequel
Rumors are swirling about the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie. sequel, and it seems like Wario might be making his big screen debut. In the previous Super Mario Bros. film released in 2023, the spotlight was on characters like Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Princess Peach. However, now Wario — known for his yellow and purple outfit, big mustache, and loud laugh — could also be in the limelight as the big bad in the sequel.
The question on everyone’s mind: who will voice this iconic video game villain? Well, Hollywood legend Danny DeVito has declared himself a champion fit for the role.
Danny DeVito Sends Message to Chris Pratt Regarding a Character in Super Mario Bros. Sequel
In a recent interview with The Movie Dweeb‘s Daniel Marrifield, Danny DeVito expressed his interest in playing Wario in the Super Mario Bros. sequel. He even has a playful message for Chris Pratt:
“You never know what happens in the world. I am up for a lot of things, I’m ready to do a lot of things. So, whatever’s coming, I look at, I see, I evaluate. Let them [Chris Pratt] know. Tell them that, I’m going to take them to the cleaners but that I should be in the movie.”
Even fans think his comedic timing and boisterous energy would be a perfect fit for Wario’s larger-than-life personality. Check out some fan reactions:

To be honest, I think that would suit him best. I was thinking John Goodman, but that tone of his would be perfect ^^

DeVito has a one-of-a-kind voice — a bit rough around the edges and always ready for a good argument. He realized the power of his voice way before other big stars, lending it to a variety of animated characters. The 79-year-old played everything from feisty villains to surprisingly sweet guys, all while keeping that down-to-earth charm. This versatility has made him a favorite among animation fans.
His voice acting credits include the grumpy titular character in The Lorax, the devil himself in the new show Little Demon, a feisty cat police in Last Action Hero, an evil alien proprietor player in Space Jam, the narrator in the classic Matilda, Phil in Disney’s Hercules, and even Herbert Powell in The Simpsons.
Jack Black Suggests Pedro Pascal for the Role of Wario
Jack Black, who brought Bowser to life in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, has a suggestion for the villain in a possible sequel: Pedro Pascal. While Black isn’t sure Bowser will return, he likes the idea of introducing a new, even badder foe. Black told Game Spot:
“It’s not a given that Bowser will return. You know, I did a few Kung Fu Panda movies, and it was a different villain every movie. They may do the same thing.”
He continued:
“You know, what if there is a more powerful, more evil villain? Then I may need to be turned to help Mario and the rest to defend our universe against some other unseen force of evil. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Wario. Pedro Pascal is Wario.”
Could the Mandalorian himself be lending his voice to Mario’s greedy rival? Only time will tell who’s going to be the archnemesis to Mario in the potential Super Mario Bros. sequel.
