Daredevil: Born Again from Marvel Television is a revival and continuation of Netflix’s Daredevil, which aired from 2015 to 2018. But unfortunately, the series has set a record, which reportedly puts it at the bottom of the table.

Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again records a lower Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score

Charlie Cox returned as Matt Murdock a.k.a., Daredevil after seven long years with Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again, which recently premiered on Disney+. Where it was initially reported that the ones who had the chance to watch the show early were pleased with it, it can’t be overlooked that a lot of critics did not appreciate the revival.

According to reports, Daredevil: Born Again opened with a strong 92% at Rotten Tomatoes, which at the time of writing rose to 94%. However, the critics are not quite impressed with the show, as it has been rated 82% on the critics’ score. Compared to Daredevil’s Season 1, which scored about 99%, Season 2 was given 81% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Season 3 of Daredevil scored 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, which makes Daredevil: Born Again sit above the original show’s season two. Movie Web noted that despite a couple of negative to mixed reviews, the series is pleasing the fans who have been waiting for Murdock for the past seven years. But they have mentioned that the series struggles with whether it wants to fully lean into the tone of the original show, or the more familiar MCU formula.

Collider noted that Daredevil: Born Again struggles to find the same parallels between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, pointing out that the characters struggle to handle big conversations and philosophical questions. However, publications have reported that the performances by the actors have been great and there are more episodes to come.

Cox noted,

It’s massive. Obviously there is something else that happens in that scene that is hugely traumatic and is going to change Matt Murdock for the rest of his life. But that cannot—what you reference, the almost attempted murder—is huge for a person like Matt. I mean, that goes against everything that he is, that he believes in.

Charlie Cox further added that according to him, going forward, Matt Murdock will spend a lifetime trying to reconcile that moment and try and pull himself further away from it as possible. Vincent D’Onofrio also added that it is a big deal, and not something to be taken lightly.

Aaron Moorhead, director and executive producer, also chimed in to share his view by stating that it is the moment that sets up an entire arc for Murdock throughout the series. He added that Matt Murdock believes that he is no longer worthy of the grace of God because of that moment and also believes that he is no longer worthy of wearing the mask or fighting crime.

Showrunner Dario Scardapane shared while speaking to Variety that it was in fact Charlie Cox’s idea for Murdock to hear Foggy Nelson’s fading heartbeat. Cox noted that the death was hard, but it got to be iconic.
