SUMMARY
  • David Corenswet might be portraying Superman now, but even he had his own insecurities.
  • He revealed how he once struggled with styling his outfit and preferred suits over casual wear.
  • Just like Corenswet, former Superman star Henry Cavill had his insecurities even though it was regarding his body image.

David Corenswet, whom people now know for his role as Superman in DCU, began acting as a child. Even so, it was not until he graduated from Juilliard School in 2018 that he began getting noticed. That was the year in which he starred in the political thriller Affairs of State. Since then, he has appeared in several shows and movies.

Corenswet is not exactly a stranger to the limelight. Even so, he has had his insecurities, and it is only now that he is opening up about it. In fact, this only proves that he is perhaps the best actor to protray the character after Henry Cavill parted with it.

David Corenswet Opens Up About the 1 Insecurity He Has About Himself

Insecurity is something that every living being is riddled with whether it is a human being or a superhero. Even a superhero as powerful as Superman grapples with his dual identity, feeling torn between his Kryptonian heritage and his desire to fit in as a human. His insecurities are rooted in the fact that he might not live up to the expectations of being Earth’s protector.

However, this is Superman we are talking about so obviously his biggest insecurity is regarding his ability to save the world. David Corenswet is a mere human like us and his insecurity seems to be about his personal dressing style. It might not sound like a big deal, but then we are not in his shoes.

In a recent interview on the podcast Manly Things (Sort Of) which he is a co-host of, Corenswet opened up about it. He said:

I was the guy who was hopeless. I mean not only did I have no instinct but I felt so uncomfortable in anything that was cool or even like… I mean the only things I could wear were like pretty baggy t-shirts and like gym shorts and a suit. I felt comfortable in like a suit cuz that’s a very like, I feel like, theatrical costumey type thing and my dad like always wore kind of old school.

While some people might consider suit too formal, Corenswet felt the most comfortable in that outfit. Suits made him feel like he could fit in with everybody and wearing anything else made him feel uncomfortable. However, he seems to be getting over it now.

Former Superman Actor Henry Cavill Also Had His Insecurities

As shocking as it might sound, even someone as dashing and charming as Henry Cavill had insecurities about his body once. The world now sees him as this extremely handsome with striking features including an eight-pack torso, but there was a time when he was bullied for being “chubby” of all things. He was even called ‘Fat Cavill’, which is perhaps the least uncreative nickname someone can come up with.

It has been almost a decade since Cavill begun addressing the bullying he faced as an overweight kid. He told PEOPLE he does not hold any grudges against those kids. If anything, it made him a better actor.

In an interview with GQ Australia, he said that sometimes he would scroll through his Instagram page and often think that he does not look in some pictures. The reason?

Because I was a chubby kid. No, no I was chubby. It’s definitely something which does play with your head. That’s probably the worst part of it. Your head can be messed with. But it’s down to me to deal with that.

He did deal with it and is now undeniably one of the best-looking actors in Hollywood, but as he said, sometimes those things do get to people’s heads and they begin doubting themselves. Thankfully, Cavill has gotten better at dealing with it. Hopefully, Corenswet too will succeed in overcoming his insecurity like his predecessor.

Superman is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025.
