Deadpool has been one of the most loved anti-heroes of the X-Men universe. His playful camaraderie with the members of Professor X’s school for gifted youngsters adds a layer of comedic relief to the otherwise violent genre. Although we got a glimpse into the complicated relationship between Deadpool and Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the upcoming Deadpool movie promises a deep dive into the duo’s equation. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman confirmed the news of starring in the movie together.

However, it looks like Deadpool is adamant about having more than one X-Men on his side for the next battle. Dafne Keen who played X-23 in Logan is in talks to reprise her role along with Hugh Jackman in the upcoming Deadpool movie that is slated to hit the theatres on July 26, 2024.

After a glorious performance in Logan, Keen is reportedly being pursued to star in the latest Deadpool flick, directed by Stranger Things fame Shawn Levy. The round of talks began before the actor’s strike and has now been picked up to achieve fruition. At first, Keen’s role was believed to be a cameo, but recent reports suggest that the actress might have a bigger role alongside Wolverine. She has not been seen in her X-23 character since Logan in 2017.

The origins of X-23 lie not in comics, but in an animated show made for a younger audience. First seen in the series X-Men: Evolution, Weapon X created X-23 or Laura Kinney as a clone of Wolverine. Ultimately, she became the sole Wolverine in the show’s universe, showcasing her immense powers and strength. Even in Logan, she was able to single-handedly defeat enemies and protect her family.

Bringing X-Men Into The MCU

Fans witnessed Beast making a surprise entry into the MCU with The Marvels, Keen’s inclusion might pave the way for the X-Men to get integrated into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s a young hero and has a lot of potential to create multiple storylines, benefitting the impending merger of the universes.

Marvel has not revealed any plans or movies where we might see the X-Men together with the Avengers crew, but fans expect significant progress is being made on that front. X-Men were among the first franchises to be successfully made into live-action movies from comic books. We hope Keen’s introduction into another storyline is not wasted and her full character’s full potential is explored.
