Denzel Washington Suffers a Crushing Defeat, The Nun 2 Box Office Collection is Truly Scary For Other Movies
The Equalizer 3 is the third film in the trilogy starring Denzel Washington and directed by Antoine Fuqua. It is a vigilante action film partly based on the same-named television series. On September 1st, 2023, the film had its global premiere and got positive reviews from critics and viewers alike.
A few weeks later, Michael Chaves’ eagerly anticipated sequel to The Nun and ninth installment in The Conjuring series, The Nun 2, which is a gothic supernatural horror film, debuted. The audience and critics have responded favorably to the sequel, and they have predicted that it will be one of the biggest horror hits for Warner Bros. Pictures. Denzel Washington’s The Equalizer 3 holds the second-biggest Labor Day Weekend opening
Actor Denzel Washington, who once again appears in the action franchise with The Equalizer 3, which was released on 1st September 2023 by Sony Pictures, is said to have attracted the older moviegoers the most and opened to $42.8 million domestically at the Labor Day weekend box office and holds the record for the second movie to have the biggest Labor Day opening weekend.
Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is still at the top spot, grossing over $94.6 million on the opening day in 2021. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the exit polling service PostTrack suggests that people aged up to 45 and above made up a staggering 50% of all ticket buyers for The Equalizer 3 including 24 % between the ages of 45 to 54 and 26% between 55 and older.
The movie is expected to add up to $11.6 million to its domestic box office total and till now it has grossed over $59 million. The movie, which earned an ‘A’ grade on the CinemaScore, holds a 74% on RottenTomatoes and was soon dethroned from the top spot by the ninth installment of The Conjuring franchise; The Nun 2. However, it has been said that the movie’s response and box office collection did exceed the expectations of the makers.
It has to be noted that The Equalizer 3 is Washington’s final outing as Robert McCall and if reports are to be believed, then if the movie manages to have a strong international performance, it could surpass the collection of the previous movie and gross over $200 million, which will be a first for the Equalizer franchise.

The Nun 2 dethrones The Equalizer 3 from the top spot
The ninth installment in The Conjuring Universe; The Nun 2 was one of the highly awaited movies that premiered on 8th September 2023 and during its opening day it went ahead to gross over $13 million, including $3.1 million in previews.
However, The Nun, which was released in 2018, still holds the record for the biggest opening in The Conjuring universe, grossing over $53.8 million along with being the highest-grossing worldwide installment in the franchise, with $365.5 million.
The movie, which has received a positive response from the audience and critics, has a score of 45% on RottenTomatoes compared to the first movie which only had 24%. According to Deadline, the movie is now expected to have about $31 million to $34 million opening.

What is The Nun 2 about?
Warner Bros.’ The Nun 2 takes place in 1950s France and stars Taissa Farmiga and Vera Farmiga, alongside Jonas Bloquet, Storm Reid, Anna Popplewell, and Bonnie Aaron. The sequel to The Nun is considered a monumental shift and improvement from the first part of the movie, including the intensity of the movie, the shocking third act, etc.
The Nun 2’s story is set a few years after the story of The Nun and about 15 years before The Conjuring’s, event will once again see Irene and Frenchie facing down Valak in the demon’s titular form of The Nun. Producer James Wan opened up with EW about the returning characters for the sequel movie and stated,
“Frenchie has moved on from the first film and he is at a Catholic school as a groundskeeper-handyman. But we saw that at the end of the first movie that the evil was still with him. It’s slowly percolating, coming back to the forefront. He realizes that there’s only one person that can really help him, and he reaches out to Taissa Farmiga’s character.”
The producer continued that he loves the platonic friendship that the two of them have and she cares very much for him and wants to do everything she can to help him.
The Nun II and The Equalizer 3 are now premiering in theatres.
