It’s all too common to see a male lead, in his 60s, going all out on the big screen, and doing things that one would usually expect from someone in their 20s.

Just look at the current scene at the box office. Tom Cruise, 61, once again returned to the big screen with his character Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. The IMF agent is still as fit as he was in 1996 and is still not afraid of jumping from dangerous places to find success in his quests. This time he’s earning plaudits and dominating the box office numbers by riding a motorcycle off a cliff.

The same trend, however, is a rarity for female stars, who seldom take up bold roles that defy their age. But that wasn’t the case with Sharon Stone, the actress behind one of the boldest scenes of 90s Hollywood.

How Sharon Stone, in Her 60s, Played a 25-Year-Old Rom-Com Role?

The semi-nude interrogation scene of Basic Instinct is still fresh in the minds of millions. Catherine Tramell left the investigating officers stunned by crossing her legs while sitting in front of them in the 1992 classic movie, and the scene from Sharon Stone on its own evoked a cult following that still remains strong – almost three decades later.

But that controversial scene might not be Stone’s boldest decision. Instead, the prize for that goes to the role of Senna Berges in All I Wish. The story of the movie is about an aspiring fashion designer who struggles to find success and love.

Now, on paper, her character is basically like every 25-year-old who is either not sure what they want or is struggling to find what they desire. But it’s Stone’s age (60) at the time of the movie’s release (2017) that surprised her fans.

When the director of the movie, Susan Walter, handed Stone the screenplay, her idea was to cast the Sliver star as the mother of the movie’s 25-year-old character. But Stone, now 65, convinced Walter to cast her as the protagonist and helped her with the financing for the film.

Further, Stone insisted Walter not make age-appropriate changes to the script, and rather let her play a character that is “alive and s*xy”.

From waking up from a one-night stand to confidently bossing the bikini look on a beach, her character did it all, in contrast to Adam, played by Oppenheimer’s Tony Goldwyn, who’s more composed and mature.

What Is Sharon Stone’s All I Wish Co-star Tony Goldwyn’s Role in Oppenheimer?

Goldwyn, who’s two years younger than Stone, received plenty of praise for his role of Adam in All I Wish. Now, he’s set to feature in Christopher Nolan‘s much-awaited project, Oppenheimer.

The 63-year-old is bringing Gordon Gray onto the big screen. Gray was President Truman’s assistant secretary of the US Army and also chaired a committee that recommended revoking J. Robert Oppenheimer’s (Cillian Murphy) security clearance in 1954.

Apart from Goldwyn and Murphy, Oppenheimer will also feature the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, and Emily Blunt. The feature documentary will hit the theaters this Friday.
