Despite Her $40 Million Hollywood Career, Kristen Bell Didn’t Want Her Kids to Be Actors For One Understandable Reason But Dax Shepard Changed Her Mind
As parents, some people prefer to keep their children from following in their footsteps. It does not necessarily mean that the parents practice the wrong profession, but they have their personal reasons for such a mindset. American actress Kristen Bell, too, had such a mindset. Luckily, her husband, Dax Shepard, was able to convince her otherwise.
Bell began acting at a young age and appeared in numerous TV commercials and stage plays before she debuted in 2001 in the short-lived Broadway musical The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Since then, she has appeared in several shows and movies but did not want her kids to become actors. However, Shepard helped her realize it might not be right.
Dax Shepard Changed Kristen Bell’s Mind About Their Kids Becoming Actors
From Angelina Jolie, who candidly told The Sydney Morning Herald that she and her then-husband Brad Pitt would rather that their kids not become actors, to Jason Momoa, who told ET that he would do his best to keep his kids out of this business unless they really want it, many popular actors do not want their children to be in the same profession as them.
So, Kristen Bell is not the first person in show business to think that keeping her children away from the industry is for the best. In a recent interview with PEOPLE at the opening night of Reefer Madness: The Musical at The Whitley in Los Angeles, she revealed her reasoning for this decision.
You know it’s interesting, when I first thought about it, I thought, ‘Oh, I don’t want them to be actors. There’s too much rejection.‘
However, her husband Dax Shepard gave her a different perspective to consider before they made such a big decision for their children.
Then my husband said, ‘Wait, do you like your life? Do you have fun? Are you overpaid? Do you get to be creative every day?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He said, ‘Why would you not want that for your kids?‘
This positive outlook on her profession helped Bell realize that maybe it would not be all that bad if her daughters, Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 8, chose to become actresses like their parents.
Kristen Bell and Her Husband Maintain One Rule at Home as Parents
Bell and Shepard began dating in 2007 and announced that they were engaged in 2010 (via Us Daily). They decided to delay their marriage until the state of California legalized same-sex marriage (via Celebuzz). Once that happened in 2013, they did not waste much time getting married. They have also together starred in several projects, and share two daughters.
In an interview with PEOPLE last month, the Veronica Mars actress revealed the one rule that she and her husband follow to model healthy behavior for their daughters.
We do not have the makeup, our conflict resolution, be behind closed doors. Even if at dinner, let’s say, one of us is frustrated and is a little snarky and then we go to bed. We’ll apologize to each other the next morning.
Bell explained that they apologize and makeup in front of their children so that they understand how conflict resolution happens. They are evidently doing their best to be good parents.
