Months back, it was reported that Steven Yeun would portray the antihero who possesses the power of a million exploding suns. Thunderbolts was previously set for a release this year. However, it suffered delays due to the Hollywood strikes and was pushed back to 2025. Considering Yeun’s departure from the project, it seems like the casting directors might now be searching for another acclaimed actor to take his place.

The highly anticipated Thunderbolts has lost one of its major cast members, Steven Yeun, as the actor reportedly departed from the film. This MCU project is set as the conclusion to Marvel’s Phase 5 of the Multiverse Saga and will bring together an ensemble cast of former villains and anti-heroes from previous films and Disney+ shows.

Months back the news of the Beef actor securing one of the most powerful characters in the MCU came out, but now according to THR, due to scheduling conflicts, Steven Yeun won’t be playing Sentry in Thunderbolts.

The actor’s involvement in the project was announced last year in February, though it wasn’t confirmed by Marvel that Yeun is playing Sentry. However, Robert Kirkman’s comments, while talking during an appearance on David Finch’s YouTube show, were quite evident that the Burning star was playing Sentry. He said:

“I don’t think this is a spoiler or anything that will get anybody in trouble. I don’t know, maybe, we’ll see. He told me, ‘Uh, I just came back from a costume fitting for the Sentry.”

However, now that it has been spreading all over that Yeun is no longer debuting in the MCU with an extraordinarily formidable character, he’s currently occupied with voicing Mark Grayson in Amazon’s adaptation of the Robert Kirkman comic.

The Thunderbolts have been often compared with DC’s Suicide Squad, despite the character having major variances. However, one notable similarity between the characters is that they aren’t the ideal choice to join a superhero team. Now that Yeun has departed from the project, another actor might helm Sentry, a tragic figure who can even surpass the powers of Thor, Captain America, and Captain Marvel.

This formidable character has incredible light-speed flight and telepathic powers and can easily transform himself into a worthy opponent in the MCU.
