During the morning episode of the hit daytime talk show The View, its host Whoopi Goldberg and other women discussed the reason behind Netflix just dwelling on the late Anna Nicole Smith’s final days in a new documentary. Goldberg acknowledges the fact that people like to judgy. To back her statement, the 67-year-old gave an example of the public becoming too power-hungry on passing judgment.

She boldly stated American Idol was the beginning of the downfall of society.

The Color Purple star said, “We as a society love to watch stuff to judge folks. I always said that the beginning of the downfall of society was with … What’s the name of that show? I always tell you that,” turning to executive producer Brian Teta, who replied, “ABC’s American Idol?” with emphasis on ABC.

She continued saying, “Once we gave people the ability to judge other people, I think we ran amuck with it. And it’s gone out of control.”

The View host added,

“They invited the public to decide who their person was. And I feel once we did that, it began us in a cycle which we have not — did you really just do that?”

The author was cut off by an executive producer for bashing the show that aired on the same network.

American Idol previously aired on Fox from 2002-2016, it was revived on ABC in 2018 with a new set of judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.

The Fatal Beauty star finally understood the hint from Tate as her co-host Sunny Hostin stated Goldberg loves the show.

The actress finally said,

“When I was watching it, ABC didn’t have it. They have it now. It’s a different show. The judges are different from the people who are coming. ABC knows that I feel like this. I’ve told them. It had nothing to do with them. It had to do with the show.”

Despite being known for having strong opinions, Whoopi Goldberg had to reverse his statement about Idol.
