Director James Gunn Rehired By Disney For ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy 3’
James Gunn has been reportedly reinstated for Guardians of the Galaxy by Disney. This comes via Deadline, which has confirmed it with Gunn and Marvel’s camp.
James Gunn Rehired By Disney?
James Gunn was fired last year in July by Disney after a few alt-right journalists made his old tweets public. These tweets made fun of rape and paedophilia, although all of them were almost a decade old. So why did Disney have a sudden change of heart? Post firing, Disney President Alan Horn met Gunn on a few occasions to discuss the whole matter. Persuaded by a public apology by Gunn, Horn decided to take him back.
Gunn didn’t do anything but blame himself for the whole controversy, claiming that he had displayed a poor judgement at the time those tweets were made. Unlike the defensive attitude shown by Kevin Hart which cost him to skip hosting the Oscars this year, Gunn fell on the sword early but never lashed out on Disney.
What About James Gunn and Suicide Squad?
James Gunn’s return to Marvel got further complicated when he signed with DC to write and direct Suicide Squad. As reported, Marvel has agreed to start the production on Guardians of the Galaxy 3 after Gunn finishes Suicide Squad. Before he got suspended by Marvel, Gunn had written a script for the third Guardians film which was rumoured to be used for the film.
Marvel is sure to benefit with James Gunn’s return if this news is genuine. The entire cast has earlier shown immense support for the director, with the lead actors even writing an open letter to Disney to have him rehired. The first two Guardians films by James Gunn made over $1.6 billion worldwide.
This will please all Guardians of the Galaxy and James Gunn fans and we hope that this gets confirmed by Marvel soon.
