After having a bad year with box office success, Disney is now on a bid to crack down on the password-sharing issues among its Disney+ subscribers. The password-sharing system is affecting the business of streaming companies, and for years now they have been working on developing strategies to crack it down. Even Disney is now on a similar track as the company has introduced a new strategy whereby, they will punish users for password sharing.

Disney+ to Punish Users for Password Sharing

The Mouse House has come up with a new strategy whereby they have updated their Canadian subscribers that password sharing of their Disney+ account will lead to the termination of their access to their service.

In their efforts to halt the practice of password sharing the company has notified their users that from November 1 “Unless otherwise permitted by your service tier, you may not share your subscription outside of your household.” Not only this the notification also stated that if any of their users are still found sharing their password, the company will limit or terminate their access to their service.

While these updates are currently rolled out only in Canada reports suggest that in a few months, it will also apply to US users. These efforts are being taken by the company to monetize streaming account freeloaders.

Disney+ to Introduce Ad-Supported Plan in Canada

Alongside its new password-sharing policy, Disney+ is also said to launch a new ad-supported plan in Canada on November 1. As per the reports, the company will price this plan at $7.99 per month. Along with Canada, this new plan will also be available in the UK and eight European countries.

This new plan of the company is also aimed at cracking down on the issues of password sharing. Not only this it is also said to push illicit password-borrowers to get their own account or prompt customers to add non-household users as “extra members”.

This same strategy was once adopted by Netflix to overcome the issues of password-sharing which was proven very effective for the company in terms of gaining more subscribers. As per the reports due to this method, Netflix was able to bring in more than 5.9 million subscribers.

Apart from all of these new updates Disney is also reportedly going to raise the price of their standalone plan for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ in the US which will be effective from the 1st of October.
