The acclaimed actor, well-known for promising roles in movies like Shallow Grave and 28 Days Later, winks at his fans through his intimate character display on the screen. 

True Detective is an American series based on the genre of crime and drama. The series kickstarted on 12 January 2014, and the latest season, which is its fourth volume, premiered on 14th January 2024. Ten years and still counting, impressive, isn’t it?

Doctor Who Star Took On The Role Because of this Heartwarming Reason

In the latest outing of the True Detective series, Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston was offered a comparatively minor role by the casting director. He was asked to play the role of Ted Corsaro, the regional Chief of Police. Aware of the timidity of the role, Eccleston initially had qualms regarding the acceptance of the offer.

However, when he came to know that playing the role would eventually lead him to romance Jodie Foster, he joyfully agreed. Eccleston told The Independent

“I’d never have taken such a small part if it wasn’t for Jodie.”

Even though he plays a small role in the series to which he was hesitant earlier, he is more than happy now because of the plot. He considers Jodie Foster as his heroine for many years. This heartwarming reason for Eccleston regarding the acceptance of the role has surprised the industry as well as the fans.

The Doctor Who star swept away his intrusive thoughts regarding his small role in the series for his crush, Jodie Foster. When asked about why he accepted the role of Ted Corsaro in True Detective, Eccleston did not hesitate to state Jodie as the sole reason. He further mentioned that he has had a crush on Foster since he was merely 11 years old.

He used to get smitten with Foster in the 1970s, watching her on the television. He meticulously differentiated that it wasn’t the movie character’s charisma that enticed him; rather, it was Foster as a confident actress in her own right that made him go weak in the knees. 

Eccleston laughed it off when asked about getting nervous with Foster. He clarified that it is rather a pleasurable and special moment for him to set his chemistry right with Foster in front of the camera.
