Dominic Fike secured the role of Elliot in Euphoria, and being a drug addict himself, he could understand the theme of the show more accurately. However, what came as a shocker for the actor was the coach who was assigned to help Fike stop substance abuse. The Vampire singer revealed that the coach offered a hollow hand, and taking her advice was extremely tough.

According to Fike, the coach failed to assist him in standing against the challenges of drugs. Considering they had nothing in common and the Babydoll star floundering to understand her advice, Fike mentioned it was “really bad”. In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, the singer said:

“I was a drug addict and coming on to a show that’s, you know, mainly about drugs, is very difficult. Sam [Levinson] got me a sober coach, somebody to be there all the time. It did not work.”

Describing how he entered the show and the series creator getting him a coach, the Why singer added:

“A random lady that I’d never relate to. We had nothing in common. We didn’t come from the same places or the same problems. It was hard to take advice from someone like that or give a sh*t.”

It was troubling for Dominic Fike to continue with a coach he couldn’t understand. He previously had been to rehab before taking up Elliot in the HBO series. However, even after getting out of rehab, it was an uphill battle for him to stay sober.

The singer even talked about his addiction being stressful and helpful for the show. Initially, the makers didn’t want Dominic Fike to be a part of Euphoria. He also shared being almost kicked out of the show as he was still struggling to control the substance abuse. The Politics and Violence singer said:

“I was reprimanded for it. I almost, you know, got kicked off the show… They were like, ‘Bro, you cannot be doing this.”

Despite the producers asking Fike to remain sober for the show and balance things out, there were many scenes filmed while the singer was actually high on drugs. He added:

“Yeah, that’s entertainment dude. They give you a bunch of money and they’re like, ‘Yeah, figure it out bud. Sink or swim’.”

The singer talked about his second studio album Sunburn, and how music has a lasting impact on his life. Dominic Fike also mentioned his excitement for the next season and since he’s sober now, things will turn out a little different for him this time.
