While Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad is still considered one of the must-watch TV series, the creator talks about a spin-off that will become nothing less than a disrespect for his massive hit show. When the crime drama came out, it soon became one of the most watched and highly acclaimed TV series.

The show and its incredible cast are still commended for their strong performances and the theme of the series. RJ Mitte played the role of Walter White Jr., a lad with disabilities leading his family to face challenges. Considering a spin-off of Mitte’s character, Vince Gilligan has expressed complete denial to make it.

When it comes to TV series that have left a lasting impact on the audience with its theme and strong narrative, Breaking Bad stands out the most. The character development of the leading man Bryan Cranston, from a teacher to an anti-hero became another reason for intensifying fans’ anticipation to witness more of the show.

Vince Gilligan who crafted Breaking Bad, has recently shared that making a spin-off series about RJ Mitte’s Walter Jr. or Flynn will result in a depressing storyline. According to his vision, this spin-off series focusing on Walter’s son following his father’s footsteps won’t appeal to the audience, considering the idea isn’t even interesting to the maker himself. In an interview with Variety, Gilligan said:

“I could pretty much guarantee right now that I have no interest in seeing that happen. That’d be a sad tribute to the show. It’s fun thinking about what would happen to the characters, but it doesn’t rise to the level of, ‘Gee, I’d like to tell more about the story.’ But who knows, in a few years maybe.”

Despite the show concluding without a happy ending and Walter Sr. tragically dying, Gilligan mentioned his hope for a better life for the characters. But to make that happen Walter Jr.’s spin-off “would be the wrong lesson from the show, if there are any lessons at all to be gleaned from it.” The maker describes Walter Jr.’s show as “depressing” and does not align with the original series.
