Drew Barrymore Reveals Why She Hasn’t Had S*x for Years
A new blog post from Drew Barrymore says she doesn’t have a problem with abstaining from s*x “for years.” Barrymore clarified her feelings on the topic after a fan said she “hates s*x.” After calling it quit with ex-husband Will Kopelman in 2016, Barrymore has not been able to have an intimate relationship.
She wrote,
“I have very different feelings about intimacy than I did growing up. I did not have role-model parents and engaged with people in grown-up ways from a tender age! I was looking for companionship! Validation! Excitement! Pleasure! Hedonism! Fun! And adventures!! Because I can’t get in the time machine and change my history, I now choose to look at it through a positive lens, which is that I have lived! I lived a very rich, full life.”
She continued,
“However, after two kids and a separation from their father that has made me cautious, I have had the pleasure of shifting my focus regarding love for myself and my two daughters.”
With Kopelman, Barrymore shares two children, Olive, 10, and Frankie, 8. After splitting up in 2016, Kopelman married Alexandra Michler, director of fashion development at Vogue.
Barrymore further explained,
“I have had the honor and a pleasure to work on myself and learn what parenting is, again something I was not exactly clear on growing up, and I’ve had many learning curves thrown my way. I’ve been intimidated, triumphant and asked to be educated in every way possible.”
Her divorce from Kopelman has left her “cautious” in her personal life since she’s trying to raise Olive and Frankie to be “empowered and to love themselves.”
Furthermore, the talk show host wrote,
“I am just in a completely different place in my life, and maybe in the near future I will get into a relationship… but it simply hasn’t been my priority. So I’m not a person who needs s*x and has to go out there and engage with people on that level. But, on the other hand, I am deeply committed to fostering how young girls, my daughters, and myself as women are supposed to function in this world!”
Despite celebrating people who can get back into relationships right after divorce, Barrymore stated that she “needed to stay very much celibate” to honor and mourn “the loss of a nuclear family I swore I would have for my daughters, as well as finding grace and acceptance in our new normal of a blended family.”
Ultimately, the Scream actress concluded that she does not “hate s*x” but instead has “finally realized that love and s*x are not the same things.” The post came after Barrymore said on her show that she could go years without s*x.
Drew Barrymore’s Interview With Andrew Garfield When She Admitted For Celibacy
According to Fox News, Barrymore originally commented on Andrew Garfield abstaining from s*x for six months to prepare for his Silence role about method acting. In an episode of her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, she said, “What’s wrong with me that six months doesn’t seem like a very long time? I was like, ‘Yeah, so?'”
And the co-host Ross Matthews added, “We buried the lede there; that’s the headline. Drew can go six months, no big deal.”
However, fans and celebrities have also misinterpreted the situation and her words during the interview. According to Barrymore, actors such as Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey practice method acting with solid results. She said that actors must “transform and fully commit” throughout the filming process.
