Not only did fans react to the buckets online, but also made hilarious jokes, making the popcorn buckets go viral. Now that everybody knows about it, and even Timothée Chalamet reacted to the unique style of the buckets, they are being sold for $846.36 on eBay.

Following the buckets going viral, fans took this opportunity to create memes and a raft of NSFW jokes, leading collectors to resell them for an unimaginable price. According to People, the highest price of the Dune 2 popcorn buckets was around $846.36 on eBay, while the AMC theatres are only selling them for $24.99+ tax.
The rubbery sandworm teeth of the popcorn buckets make it a little weird to grab popcorn, and even Jimmy Kimmel made fun of it when the film’s cast members joined his talk show. The host said those popcorn buckets aren’t “ideal for eating… it’s definitely weird”. Director Denis Villeneuve also shared his most hilarious reaction to the buckets in an interview with The New York Times, explaining that he was surprised by the intriguing design and size of the popcorn buckets.

The Dune 2 popcorn buckets went so viral that they successfully ignited an SNL sketch by Marcello Hernández, Ayo Edebiri, and Bowen Yang. The actors play teenagers in the video and talk about a big night finally arriving after a long time. When Hernández starts singing the song, it is when you’ll realize that the teenagers were talking about losing their v-rginity to the popcorn buckets.
In the SNL video, Hernández is seen with a glass of champagne with the bucket, and Edebiri taking her bucket to the prom. The song’s lyrics include:
“We didn’t make this up, this is a real thing. Can’t wait to see Dune 2, eating popcorn out of my bucket…then I’ll take it home and f*ck it.”
