Dune: Did You Catch All These Interesting Details?
There are some interesting details that you may have missed in Dune, did you catch all of them? The critically acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve is at it again with his recent sci-fi epic which is based on a novel with the same name by Frank Herbert. So far, the movie has an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Moreover, the box office collections are surprisingly good even after a simultaneous HBO Max release. The movie is packed with A-list actors, but there are some interesting details that you may have missed. Check it out below!
1. Thufir Hawat’s Exorcist Eyes
When Duke Leto asks his advisor Thufir Hawat (played by Stephen McKinley Henderson) how much the proceedings cost the Emperor, his eyes glaze over to a milky white color as he calculates the amount. This is a key moment in the worldbuilding of Dune.
2. Dr. Yueh’s Dimaond Tattoo
A very slippery figure in the movie, he ultimately betrays House Atreides to the Harkonnens. However, he learns it the harder way that there is no way of making a deal with the latter. Moreso, they had his wife as a hostage and they had been torturing her “systematically.” However, the tattoo on his head is not a fashion choice, it’s closely tied with his profession as a Suk doctor.
3. No Computers in Dune Universe
One really interesting aspect of the movie is that there are no computers whatsoever. Of course, there’s the basic technology that relays information, but there are no computers or artificial intelligence to assist with space travel. If we talk about the ornithopters, even they rely entirely on the reaction speed, eyesight, and navigation skills of their pilots. A very interesting detail, but something that could be addressed in the possible sequel.
4. Spice Triggers Paul’s Vision & Does More
This scene comes in an easy-to-miss scene, and thanks to Denis Villeneuve’s vision, we were able to catch something important. When Paul runs into the desert to rescue a few spice mine workers, some work signs kick sand towards Paul and Gurney Halleck. However, swirls around them and we can see some golden flickers in the sand which represents the spice. It is at this moment when Paul’s latent ability to make prophecies is awakened. And from this point on, his dreams become waking visions.
5. Paul has Fremen Blue Eyes
In one particular scene, Timothée Chalamet’s typical tawny gaze seems to have lost its touch and a different physical attribute takes over. We see Paul fighting for Arrakis with the bright blue-on-blue eyes of the indigenous Fremen. One might take it to the genetic angle, but it is simply because of the spice which is literally everywhere in the desert of Arrakis. But of course, this is something that might get addressed properly in the second part of the film which is most likely happening. So, what do you think of Dune? Let us know in the comments below!
