Barbie has eclipsed $1 billion in global box office collection and is expected to fuel, if not kick start, the trend of toy adaptations.

However, Greta Gerwig’s movie isn’t the first movie of 2023 to cross the much sought-after mark as it sits second behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which reached the figure of $1.3 billion following its release early in the summer.

In the same vein, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has one-upped Barbie in pushing or increasing the hype for its very own niche genre of video-game adaptations.

Plans of God of War Live-Action Series in Full Swing

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is based on Nintendo’s iconic video game property, as Mario (Chris Pratt) gears up to go against Bowser (Jack Black) to thwart his plans of conquering the world. Similarly, another iconic video game series is in line to hit the big screen.

Santa Monica Studios’ 2018 installment of the God of War series proved to be a huge success in the gaming world thanks to its brilliant storyline. In God of War (2018), Kratos and his son Atreus go on a journey to the highest peak of the nine realms in order to spread the ashes of his second wife, Faye, as per her wish.

Late in 2022, it was confirmed that Amazon, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television, will bring the live-action series based on the 2018 version of the game. Santa Monica Studios released another installment in November of 2022, titled God of War Ragnarök. However, it’s understood the focus of the series will be entirely on the plot of the predecessor of Ragnarök.

Rafe Judkins, who was a writer for Tom Holland’s Uncharted in 2022 (another video-game-based Hollywood project), has been roped in as showrunner and executive producer for the Amazon series.

Dwayne Johnson’s Name Linked With Amazon’s God of War Live-Action Series

Showrunner Judkins or any other official figure has yet to come forward with any suggestions regarding the cast members for the series. Still, social media rarely waits for such development before adding their own assumptions, theories, and/or on rare occasions a scoop or two.

The character of Kratos is based on Greek mythology and is considered a “divine personification of strength.” Accordingly, any Hollywood star who will get the nod is likely to be huge in stature.

Fans have suggested names like Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), and Dwayne Johnson (Black Adam), among others to play the part.

Now, according to Twitter user @RedLightning420, the directors of God of War are “strongly considering” handing the role of Kratos to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The user added TMZ as the source at the end of his Tweet.

However, it must be noted that we couldn’t manage to find any official reporting from TMZ on their site or social media pages.
