‘Ego’ From Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Might Return in Eternals
Ego; the living planet had a significant role as the villain in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. And looks like the upcoming movie of MCU’s Phase 4 might bring him back.
Eternals is all set to explore 7,000 years of MCU mythology thanks to superhuman beings!
A part of their story would involve how the Celestials created the Eternals. The final trailer of Eternals did feature multiple Celestial; an ancient and powerful race that previously controlled the Infinity Stones. If you remember, MCU did quietly set them up through the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. The Collector’s base of operation in the first film was inside a severed Celestial head which was known as “Knowhere”. The film also showed Eson the Searcher use the Power Stone to destroy civilizations. GOTG 2 introduced a Celestial aka Ego but he looked completely different from the others.
It did feel like Ego’s MCU journey has ended when Groot set off a bomb inside the planet’s core which functioned as his brain. However, with the presence of Celestials and the Eternals’ multi-millennia spanning story, Marvel Studios now has a chance to bring him back.
After all, he is a member of Celestials and he could have helped create the Eternals or the Deviants. While other Celestials are huge, Ego has experience in creating matter and human-like beings, after all, he had even created his own human avatar to explore the cosmos, so he could have helped pioneer the Eternals’ creation! Of course, he could be still dead during the “main” part of Eternals’ story but he could still be a part of the film in the flashbacks.
Ego could still make an appearance even if he wasn’t involved in the creation of the main characters. The MCU didn’t explore much of Ego’s past but we do know that he has visited thousands of planets and planted his seed as part of the “Expansion.” In that case, he could have met the Eternals during his many trips to Earth or maybe the one where he fell in love with Meredith Quill.
There are many possibilities of Ego returning in Eternals, and hopefully, we do see him!
