Eugenio Franceschini is the talk of the town these days, thanks to his starring role in Lily Collins’ hit Netflix series Emily in Paris. He has acting in his genes as both his parents are actors and own the theater company, Viva Opera Circus. It was at this theater that his career as a performer began.
Franceschini attended Rome’s Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (Experimental Center of Cinematography) to pursue the acting course led by famous Italian actor Giancarlo Giannini. The White as milk, red as blood actor not only has a partner but also is father to a young son, as can be seen on his Instagram page. Although the Netflix series is his breakthrough role in Hollywood, he has starred in numerous Italian shows.
Grand Hotel
This is an Italian TV miniseries that was aired for one season in 2015 before getting canceled. The series consisted of six episodes and starred Franceschini in the role of Pietro Neri, one of the lead actors.
The show was based on the eponymous Spanish series which was aired for three seasons. A blend of mystery, romance, and suspense, the series sees Pietro take the job of a waiter in a luxurious hotel in the 20th century as he tries to uncover the truth behind his sister’s disappearance. In doing so, he fumbles upon a web of lies, intrigue, and dark secrets among the hotel’s elite guests and employees.
Medici
This Anglo-Italian TV series is a 2016 historical drama that follows the rise of the Medici family in Florence during the Renaissance period. The show was aired for a total of three seasons, but Franceschini only appeared in the first season, Masters of Florence.
This first season, aired in 2016, chronicled the rise of Cosimo de’ Medici after the demise of his father Giovanni de’ Medici. Franceschini played the role of Ormanno Albizzi, a member of a rival Florentine family involved in the political power struggles with the Medici family. It is also reported (via South China Morning Post) that it was during the making of this project that he met his current partner.
La strada di casa (The road to home)
La strada di casa is an Italian TV series, that aired for three seasons from 2017 to 2019. The show follows the story of Fausto Morra, an agricultural estate owner who has been in a coma for five years and wakes up to find out that he has been accused of a murder that he does not remember committing.
Franceshini plays the role of Fausto’s younger brother, Lorenzo Morra, who has taken over the family business during his brother’s absence. Lorenzo doubts that his brother might have committed the murder. However, his suspicions are slowly cleared away as the series progresses and his bond with his brother deepens.
Non mi lasciare (Don’t leave me)
Non mi lasciare is an Italian TV series which was aired in 2022 for one season. Besides Eugenio Franceschini, the show also stars Vittoria Puccini, Alessandro Roja, and Sarah Felberbaum. It is a crime drama of light episodes.
The show follows the story of Elena Zonin, a policewoman specializing in cybercrime who returns to Venice to investigate a child trafficking ring linked to the dark web. Franceschini plays the role of Luigi Fornari, an agent working on the case.
Gloria
Based on Roberto Proia’s original screenplay of I would like to see you, this is another Italian TV series aired in 2024. The show follows Gloria Cicalone (also known as Gloria Grandi), an actress whose reputation as an Italian diva fades away after a series of professional and personal struggles.
The show has six episodes. It sees Franceschini in the role of Gabriele De Marchi, Gloria’s social media manager who helps her at first and then begins to blackmail her. The show was praised for its engaging plot and also for the lead actress Sabrina Ferrilli’s performance.
Eugenio Franceschini might be the man of the moment for Hollywood fans now, but he has been making waves in the Italian industry for a while now. That said, hopefully, he will certainly star in more Hollywood projects.
