‘Europeans Really Value Quality of Life’: MCU Star Gwyneth Paltrow Subtly Trolls America – The Country That Bred and Raised Her Career, Says There’s a Noticeable ‘Difference’
Gwyneth Paltrow is known for playing Tony Stark’s love interest, Pepper Potts, in the MCU. However, the star stepped away from acting and decided to contribute all her time to her company, Goop. The actress’ company has been criticized by several scientists and doctors and has been labeled as ‘snake oil.’ Recently, the actress made an appearance at Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses Summit and talked about her company, work culture, and differences between living in America and Europe.
Gwyneth Paltrow prefers Europe over America
During the appearance, the Academy Award-winning actress criticized the American way of life and stated,
“I lived in London as an ex-pat for a long time, and I think one of the things that I really came to admire about the Europeans is that they really value a quality of life and time with the people they love and eating and they’re not on there, as it were, blackberries at the time, like all the time, like Americans were iPhones”
Gwyneth Paltrow says she shuts off her company in August
The actress also talked about her company’s holiday policies and shared that she shuts off the company during the summer.
“And I would kind of notice a difference between being in New York and being back in London. And when I started the company and I started hiring people, I always just shut off the company for two weeks in August,” the MCU star stated.
“At the beginning, you know, once I raised VC money, they were like, ‘You’re going to do what?’ I fought for it and I said, ‘First of all, let’s be honest, in August, everybody is on vacation or people are slowing down. People aren’t really fully going full steam ahead anyway. And to give everybody two weeks of vacation, that’s happening in concert at the same time,” the actress added.
The actress pays more attention to her company’s work culture than to creating authentic products
The Iron Man star believes that her policies work in favor of her employees.
“[It] affords people the luxury of time with their families and not being concerned that they’re missing something.
“I really wish more American companies would close and let everybody rest,” the actress added, criticizing America’s way of life again.
Despite the actress’ company’s seemingly positive work environment, Goop has been subjected to several lawsuits, including one in which the company had to pay $145,000 in civil penalties for making unsubstantiated claims that jade eggs help to regulate the menstrual cycle.
Perhaps, the actress should pay more attention to producing scientifically-backed products instead of wasting time bashing the American lifestyle.
