Even with Hugh Jackman, Deadpool & Wolverine Will Face An Uphill Battle at the Box Office Thanks to One Reality That’s Set in Stone
The summer movie season is going into full swing, and Disney is ready with its big guns. On one side there is the animated sequel Inside Out 2, which has already been breaking records. On the other side, Deadpool & Wolverine is about to show the new superhero team-up, bringing R-rated action to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Ever since Inside Out 2 came out, it has been making records with its viewers’ ratings and overwhelming earnings. At the same time, Deadpool & Wolverine has its release ahead, and Ryan Reynolds is bringing Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine along. But it will have some competition to face ahead.
Inside Out 2 Is Breaking Box-Office Milestones
Inside Out 2 is a sequel to its 2015 original and fans have been waiting for Riley as she grows into a teenage girl. The movie has been successful in washing out records and it is not showing any signs of stopping. It has already earned more than $863.2 million around the world (according to Box Office Mojo), which surpasses the first film’s performance. It is quite impressive, as it has only been released for a little over two weeks as of now.
The domestic viewership of the movie has also been great. According to Deadline, it has generated $411.8 million in the domestic market, which ranks it among the top 10 animated movies in the USA. It has surpassed Frozen, and it had the third-biggest opening weekend for any animated movie ever.
Inside Out 2 is almost touching the $1 billion mark at the global box office. Surpassing the mark will make it the only movie in 2024 to achieve that feat. That will be huge because of the recent challenges that have affected the movie industry such as the SAG-AFTRA strike, geopolitical tensions, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, Inside Out 2 is already raising the stakes for other films that will be released during the summer. It has already surpassed its previous competitor movies like Bad Boys: Ride or Die and is the top-grossing movie of the year 2024. Deadpool & Wolverine will have to put in a lot of effort to surpass its records.
Deadpool & Wolverine Appears a Promising Contender to Inside Out 2
Deadpool & Wolverine has got a lot of people eager to watch the movie since its announcement. It is introducing Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool in the MCU, and it is also reprising Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. That is a team-up fans have been waiting to see for many years.
The first Deadpool made around $782.6 million worldwide (according to Box Office Mojo) and Deadpool 2 collected approximately $734. 5 million (according to Box Office Mojo), which is fairly good for R-rated superhero films. Now, with Wolverine, fans are expecting this one to be even bigger. According to The Quorum‘s predictions, Deadpool 3 in its first weekend could make between $200 million and $239 million (via Deadline).
According to Fandango, Deadpool & Wolverine topped as the most anticipated movie of 2024 and the most anticipated summer movie while Reynolds and Jackman are the most anticipated superheroes. When the teaser trailer was released during the Super Bowl, it broke records. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it got 365 million views in just 24 hours, which made it the most-watched movie trailer in a day.
Despite how Deadpool & Wolverine could potentially be the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, it’s still got to compete with Inside Out 2. It’s definitely going to be an interesting battle at the box office this summer.
Inside Out 2 was released on June 14, 2024, and is running in theaters.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released on July 26, 2024.
