Every Time Marvel Movies & Shows Conquered MTV Awards 2022
During the three-hour broadcast of the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards: Unscripted on Sunday, more than two dozen Golden Popcorn buckets — undoubtedly the tastiest of awards — were handed away. The event, led by Vanessa Hudgens and Tayshia Adams, honored fans’ favorite series, actors, and films, with both half (scripted and unscripted) broadcasting simultaneously at 8/7c.
Despite bringing out the biggest films with the best talent every year, Marvel Studios has traditionally failed to win awards. The studio has been repeatedly overlooked for Oscars, Emmys, and other important awards, but fan voting has proven to be one area where it excels. After all, it’s the biggest and most popular franchise. The MTV awards event has rolled around, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has enjoyed remarkable success as Marvel Studios attempts to push itself as an Emmy contender.
Marvel ruled the MTV Awards
Spider-Man: No Way Home – Going into Sunday night’s event, Spider-Man: No Way Home was nominated for seven distinct prizes. Our favorite Spider-Man was up for Best Performance in a Movie, Best Hero, Best Villain, Best Kiss, Best Fight, and Best Team, in addition to the main prize for Best Movie. At the MTV Awards on Sunday night, Tom Holland’s third Spider-Man movie won him the prize for Best Movie Performance. The movie even won the award for Best Movie.
Black Widow – Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow took up the Best Hero award for her solo debut, an appropriate honor given that it was her final performance in the part. Winning Best Hero brings a lovely conclusion to her ten-year tenure in the part, especially given the difficult competition she encountered. With Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, and Daniel Craig’s James Bond competing for the award, Marvel Studios seemed destined to win.
Loki – Sophia Di Martino deserved to be recognized for her role as Sylvie, as she nailed the shattered and traumatized Loki Variant – there’s no doubt she has a bright future in Hollywood. She won the Best Breakthrough Performance award. The chemistry of Loki, Sylvie, and Mobius evidently connected with viewers, while No Way Home’s Spider-Men team-up had been believed to be a no-brainer for the award. The Disney+ series also received the prize for Best Team for Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Owen Wilson’s Mobius, and Di Martino’s Sylvie.
When it comes to the awards that Marvel Studios were unable to win, Best Show looked to be a hard shot for Loki. The power and effect of Euphoria have been vividly proven in this event, after all, who would have guessed that the MCU’s blockbuster action would be defeated by a high school fistfight? Holland and Zendaya’s heartbreaking farewell was also nominated for Best Kiss but lost out to Jackass Forever’s comical snake kiss.
